I only have a tiny Chanel collection (4 bags) to go with us during a long-distance relocation. Now these are the options I have for how to safely store and ship these bags.

1) hide my boxes inside something else (coats, down jackets etc) and then leave those containers inside the trunk of my car while the rest of the family ride in my husband’s car.

Cons: I am shipping my car and will need to give the driver my key.
The heat in the next few weeks might also be bad for the leather?

2) hide my boxes separately in different suitcases (clothes only) and then ship those suitcases with the rest of household boxes. We’re renting one portion of a cargo container.

Cons: I won’t be in town to receive the shipment but hubby will. I’m also concerned about the heat inside the cargo container.

Of course the most ideal option is to bring those boxes with us in my husband’s car, but that’s not possible since his trunk will be full of our living essentials, including a thick foamy mattress topper, for the first few days in the new place before the cargo container arrives.

I am already considering selling one of the Chanel bags that I haven’t been using for more than a year, so the total numbers of boxes will likely go down to three. But things like this Loewe basket will likely just stay with us inside the car as a snack basket.

What would you do in this situation?

Thanks in advance for your time!

I would personally travel with the woc in a tote and use it to organize your stuff while traveling, put the other chanel bag in your suitcase in the dust bag and stuff it maybe with clean underwear or socks, and ship the boxes in the car you’re shipping.
Do you have friends or family that you trust in the area you’re moving from? You could also pre-pack them in a box and have someone you trust overnight them to your new home once you get there. Just some ideas!

Thank you everyone for the ideas!

I didn’t think of separating the boxes with bags before but it’s actually a great idea!:nuts:

The woc is probably the easiest one to manage cuz I can just pack it with other belongings in the suitcase that’ll go with us.
The purple one is lambskin so it’s gonna stay at the top of my personal tote, whether this Loewe basket or my Longchamp.

I wonder if I might still have chance to sneak the other two bags (one square mini flap and the other rectangular mini flap) into my husband’s car…
Those will be in their individual dust bags and be kept in non-Chanel shoeboxes so we don’t draw attention during our trip.

The shipping method is great too. I’ll just need to figure out if store to store is possible so I can personally sign off and pick them up when we get there.

Thanks again it’s so nice to have you all!:flowers::heart:

Glad you'll be planning to hand carry, it will be easy to do so! But have some advice regarding your boxes if you plan to keep them. Please do personally oversee that the boxes are packed along with all your other belongings for the move. I neglected to do so and my husband threw all my boxes away!

Thanks for the reminder! That’s a good (& scary) point!
I’ll make sure to do so during packing and place the empty boxes in my trunk by myself

If you do end up shipping your bags (or anything else with sentimental or $ value), something I did recently when moving was place an Apple AirTag in the box so I could track where it was during its journey. It's obviously not 100% perfect but it did give me peace of mind to at least have a rough idea of where my items were over time.
If you don't use Apple I think Samsung also has something similar and I'm sure there are other tracking options possible. (I mean outside of the tracking number you get when you send registered mail since I've had issues with packages vanishing entirely before).

Thanks for the reminder! I’ll definitely invest in those if I decide to ship separately through other carriers.

I was actually considering store to store so I can pick up myself. That’s always more hassle but safer.

I would do if someone suggested. Find a friend or family member in the area that you can simply leave the bags in the box at and come pick them up when the entire movie is done and make a coffee or lunch date out of it. You can then take all bags with you home in your car. ;)

I had to go through this several years ago. Separate them from their Chanel boxes. Bring/pack the bags with you during your relocation. Place them in their dust bags in a generic bag/tote or in your suitcase. I do not recommend having them placed in a box in your car that will go in the shipping container or in a box with your boxed household items in the other shipping container. I am not sure what the insurance coverage is when you place high value items in shipping containers during a move and they are lost or stolen. When I moved across the ocean, I was told not to place boxes/items of value/valuables in our cars that were shipped in a container or placed with the other household boxes that were going into the other shipping container. You can pack the bags in a box in your husbands’s car. However, it wouldn’t be easy to take them in/out of the car during your over night stays or stop overs on the road trip. Just providing insight from my experience.
