Advice about men's watches...

My DF is thinking about buying a Cartier Calibre. We're curious about other options at this price point. I know this may be a surprise but he doesn't really care for the look of Rolex watches although I wouldn't mind seeing your favorites. Thanks!

Look into the Omega brand as well, i think its in the same price point or close to the cartier...

The seamaster planet ocean 8500 calibre is a great watch for that sport/smart looking watch, or a speedmaster chronograph 9300 calibre in a leather strap if you are really looking for a dressier watch.

Now that the basel 2013 has released new models its a great chance to buy a watch

I really dislike the calibre. The design aesthetic really betrays Cartier's clean and elegant look and appears as a haphazard attempt to fill the obnoxiously-big-sportswatch niche that they were previously lacking. If your going to spend this much on a watch, please get something classic. Try JLC, IWC, and Omega for starters.

Possibly also Breitling though they arent really my tastes (ignoring Cartier and Rolex of cause)

As much as i like the aesthetics of cartier watches, im disappointed with how much or little it holds its value.

I love the simple design of panerai and iwc. For iwc i recomment the Portuguese line.. it looks similar to the calibre or the pilot watches!
