Hi everyone!

I have questions regarding the adjustments for the Cartier Trinity (big) earrings, and also wanted to get your opinion on what I should buy.

I’m in love with the big Trinity earrings (pictured above) and would love to get them, but they seem to have the tightest mechanism ever that’s designed to painfully squeeze even the thinnest of earlobes. I saw and tried them in store - the space where your earlobe is supposed to sit is only 2-3mm, I can’t imagine even a child or someone with the thinnest earlobes can comfortably wear this without considerable adjustments. I talked to my very experienced SA who told me that due to the design itself, the maximum adjustments they can do are to lengthen the post and decrease the tension of the snap closure, but even then this means the space for your earlobe will stay at 2-3mm only even after adjustments!

So my question is for anyone who has this earring or any other Cartier earring with the same snap closure - have you adjusted, and have the adjustments made a significant difference to lessen the pain and tightness when wearing the earring? By how much did you adjust ie. the length of the post and tension of the snap closure? Do you recommend getting these earrings in light of all this?

I have relatively fleshy earlobes, not the thickest, but definitely not thin. I’d like to think they’re fairly average or above average in thickness. And i have sensitive ears and skin in general. So while I’m very much in love with the big trinity earrings, I can’t just buy it unless there’s assurance that this won’t hurt my ears at all or for the most part. I just want to buy the big trinity earrings so badly lol because they’re so gorgeous and unique but the pain factor is stopping me.

I also like the small trinity earrings (pictured above) and definitely have no problems with them because they have long posts and the pousette backings. I think they’d be great for everyday wear, while the big ones would be great for a statement piece when dressing up more. I do think the big earrings showcase the trinity design more, but pain. So all things considered, I wanted to ask (hence the poll), do you think I should get the small earrings, big earrings, or both? Lol :confused1: I’m pretty torn so opinions would be appreciated!!

Thank you very much in advance for sharing your experience and opinions! :flowers::heart:

I say go for the small. Still beautiful trinity design without any worries regarding fit or adjustments needed. Plus they can be an everyday earring versus the larger ones which are more of a statement piece in my opinion. Good luck with your decision!

I have the love hoops and had them adjusted. I brought my diamond studs to the store and showed them where I comfortably wear the backings. They made measurements and off they went. They are a little big but not painful anymore. They did make the posts longer. When I first received them I couldn’t wear more than hour bc they hurt so badly! I posted in the earrings thread a while back.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I keep getting lost in the Cartier Earrings Thread because it's a very broad topic and multiple conversations are going on!

Since the bigger love and bigger trinity earrings have similar (but not exactly the same) snap closure I'd like to ask (and I assume you bought B8022500). So your posts were also lengthened and the tension of the snap closure loosened? Sounds like it. And sounds like they are not painful anymore but looser? Do they ever feel like they'd fall off or have fallen off? Also, are they still squeezing your earlobes, even if not so tightly anymore? And just wondering if you'd still recommend getting these snap closure type earrings (ie. big trinity earrings), especially for someone like me with relatively fleshy earlobes and sensitive skin. I know all the odds are against me saying to not buy them, but I guess I'm trying to find insights / experiences from people that have adjusted and found it comfortable, especially if they also have thicker earlobes, so want to see if it's possible to still buy them!

There are a lot of questions in there! Let me try to answer...
Yes, that's the correct model.
Yes, they lengthened the post and increased the opening size.
They will never fall off. The hinge is very very tight.
They are not squeezing my ears at all. The only thing I feel is the weight (b/c they are a bit heavy).
Yes I recommend getting them with an adjustment. Without, for me, it's a no way.

Let me see if I still have the photos buried on my phone...

I have the bigger Trinity earrings. They are one of the most comfortable earrings I own.

The Trinity Cartier seem to only grip where needed and not pinch the whole ear lobe (on me) so I din't need them altered at all. Some other earrings with the same mechanism are quite tight and I feel it after a while, so I know how painful that must feel.

One of the reasons I bought them was the closure, I am so worried about not only losing matrix butterflies but the earrings themselves. I have a pair of Annoushka earrings now unworn because no regular matrix (or reg) butterfly fits the post.

Before you give-up on the larger, try to go in-store and check you're putting them on correctly.

Check you don't have flesh caught in the mechanism.
Check they're on the right way (there's a L and a R)

Thank you so much @emo4488 @papertiger for your opinions and insights and photos!! :flowers:

I did try both the small and big trinity earrings in store, twice. I tried to wear the big earrings especially for a longer time, about one hour plus for the time I was in store, and surprisingly they did not hurt my ears! But there's definitely pressure and after a while I did feel the weight - not much but just a little bit. And when I took them out, there was a deep imprint of the earring on the front and back of my earlobes from that pressure... but it wasn't painful... So it's definitely not an earring I can wear every day because of the weight and pressure on my earlobes I think, regardless of lack of pain, because they would sag my ears. Though of course, I was in a cool air-conditioned room and my ears were not swollen after a long hot day (I live in a tropical country), and I only wore it for an hour as opposed to a whole day or night, so it would be difficult to gauge if they would really hurt me after wearing all day. Do either of you - and anyone else reading this! - find it's more uncomfortable or painful the longer that you wear these snap closure earrings?

Anyway, overall it sounds like the bigger earrings do work for both of you and after my own experience of wearing it for an hour, I feel a bit more assured that actually they could be suitable for me. (Because if I'm honest, the small earrings are just really convenient, but they just don't showcase the trinity design as much, almost disappearing and looking like normal hoops, compared to the big ones... I like them but not as much as the big ones?) I'm inclining towards buying the bigger earrings now and to not adjust them, so that if it's really unsuitable I could return it. Then if I'm sure about not returning them, I can adjust them later on for even better comfort. Not sure yet but this sounds like a plausible plan? Haha

Hi @vixen18 @EatLoveLaugh ! I saw in other threads that you both got the big trinity earrings and was hoping to get your input as well if you don't mind? :) How thick are your earlobes and did you have the earrings adjusted, if so how much did you adjust the post and the tension of the closure? Did you find them more uncomfortable or painful the longer you wear them throughout the day? Hope to hear your opinions / experiences if possible!

Hi! Did you ever buy these and did you have the backs adjusted?

I tried them on today and absolutely love them (larger size trinity). The SA did say I could have the posts lengthened if necessary.
