I found a large vermillion phoebe on poshest for a great price...the seller had it listed as a small loganberry but the creed patch was for the vermillion. So I snapped it up and was thrilled to have it out for delivery just three days later. Here is when things took a wrong turn.
I had to leave the house that day to go on an errand, the weather was horrendous with heavy thunderstorms. So when I got home I came into the house through the garage so the little one wouldn't get wet .
After being home an hour and having put the little one down for a nap I checked the online tracking to see if the postman had been (I expected a delay due to weather), to my horror it said the package had been delivered to the front porch over an hour before.
I rushed to the porch and there sat the drenched box . Upon bringing it in I noticed blue dye on the box... My heart sank, inside was the lovely purse wrapped only in blue tissue paper which had leaked dye onto the leather .

I was horrified Snd quickly got on TPF to see what I could do..... Baby wipes, rubbing alcohol, leather conditioner all helped remove a large portion of the stain but also a bit of color.
Next day I went to Joann to get paint and after much experiment I found a mix that was pretty close to the vermillion. I still have to condition and then waterproof ( waiting on more Apple from Amazon) but I think it's going to be useable and the average person on the street Prob won't even notice the flaw.

Oh my gosh! Horrible that happened but it looks really good in the after pictures! I cannot believe they used colored issue paper and had it directly on the leather - wet or not - I would worry about color transfer. Hope you got a great deal!

PS Did you let the seller know they probably should not use that tissue again?

I did put in the remarks section about the whole incident, and that in future they shouldn't use colored paper and also should wrap items in some type of plastic covering before placing in the box. I dinged some stars on the review for the packaging because with a little common sense the whole thing could have been avoided. The day it happened I just literally wanted to cry, I kept going over it in my head....why did I go out, what was it raining, why did she use colored paper, why did the postman leave it out in the rain ( I am still PO'd about that , another non use of common sense).

Oh wow. I'm glad I never use color tissue paper to pack the bags I sell. I usually reuse the air packs and tissue paper from my online purchases. Never go out of my way to buy tissue paper.

Glad you were able to get rid of the stains! The paints blend in really well. Nice job!

I'm glad there is a happy ending! I thought it was ruined for sure! I love pretty tissue paper and I always wondered if the dye would bleed. Now I know. Your seller is lucky that you are so good with paint! At the very least, she should have put the wrapped bag in plastic before putting it into the box.

So glad you were able to make her pretty again!
I had a black violet legacy clutch left on my front porch in a hurricane by my mailman. I dried her out on my clothesline and conditioned her. She is still a bit stiff, but definitely wearable.

I have learned to always request to a seller to put my purchase in a plastic bag! You just never know when this type of scenario may happen! So happy that all is looking so much better!

My UPS/FedEx drivers have been known to slip large plastic bags over boxes when it's rainy out. With the absolute torrential rain that's been happening all over the Midwest and East lately, I'm stunned your driver just stuck a box on the porch!

You did an amazing job getting the stains out! I really had to look for any signs of discolouration in the second set of pics(and honestly I'm not sure if I really saw them or it was just because I knew that's where they were), I don't think anyone would notice it if you took it out.
It's a beautiful bag and amazing colour!

Yes UPS/FedEx are pretty good about slipping packages into plastic.. thankfully we have great drivers...

But, she mentions postman.. so I think the USPS delivered her package, and from what I have experienced, the packages left on my porch have never been put inside a plastic bag.. I find our postal delivery drivers to be rather lazy when delivering packages in the rain.. I'm sure not all are this way, but ours are..

Op, glad you were able to fix it up, looks good!

Yes it was the post office who delivered the package. I am not even sure why he didn't put it in the oversized package mailbox for me to pick up. The box didn't look like it was too big to go in there, I am assuming he had a lot of other packages in those boxes that day and mine was one of the last ones he delivered.
I am happy that it's wasn't a lost cause and will get to use the purse.
