I don't drink but according to my family members that do, they say a nice cool crisp white or rose is lovely in the summer.

LOL.....Ok, do you mean wine as in a bottle of wine, or wine, our favorite color from RM?? I think both are OK!! So, if you are referring to a wine purse, I think it's a great neutral that goes with everything and is a year around color!!

I agree with @Antonia that wine is fine for summer. I recall a few years back seeing pics of Jennifer Aniston carrying the same black bag a lot, including with light colored summer clothes. If it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me.
