A movie date with a purse

Hi everyone,

I figured I'd come to you guys since you're the authorities on handbags. Is this normal behaviour?

I was on a date to see the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, and my girlfriend did the strangest thing throughout the whole movie - she held her bag up in her palms for the whole film. Was she really that desperate to show it off to the movie patrons?

When I finally got the nerve to ask her about it - after the first two hours - she explained if she held the bag any closer to herself, colours would transfer from her clothing and the bag would be ruined.

Personally, I think she might have some issues. But, it's a white bag. "Coach Ali" I've caught a few times. Should I be concerned or is this normal? She held that bag up like an athlete - although I've seen weight-lifters hold up car batteries for less time in endurance matches, she'd have them all beat, hands down.

What's going on ladies? I turn to my right in the theater, and all I can see around the silhouette of a handbag is it's crushing weight on delicate little hands and feet.

Please help!

That does strike me as strange - I mean you can get colour transfer but usually it has to get wet!

Was the floor wet? Maybe she didn't want to get it dirty!

Welcome by the way!

It looked just like this!

Perhaps you should suggest she carry a thin plastic bag inside of her white bag. In situations such as that where the floor is dirty, she slips her bag inside the plastic one and sets it on the floor or the seat next to her.

Problem solved.

She could bring the dustbag with her, and either lay the dustbag on her lap with the bag on it, or go the whole nine yards and put the bag in the dustbag and place it on her lap.
With some types of jeans, color transfer IS possible. It just appears she really treasures that bag and will be devastated if it came to harm. I wouldn't be too freaked out by the behavior (although I do salute your gf for her wrist strength and diligence!).
Also, love your illustration!!

Wow, she takes really good care of her stuff which is good but her life will certainly be easier if she finds a bag to put her purse in or wears a scarf around her neck next time, then she can just put her bag on the scarf.

White bag + movie theater sticky floors = BAD idea. I understand exactly why she did that, but perhaps in future she ought to either wear that bag with white clothing or take it to a purse/shoe specialist who might be able to scotchguard it if possible. I say scotchguard because I am not familiar with purse protectants; however you can check website www.lovinmybags.com for further assistance!

This sounds exactly like something I would do. That is why I refuse to buy a white purse ever again.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with your girlfriend. She just wants to protect something that she spent a lot of money on. Suggest to her that she bring a plastic bag or a dust cover to put her purse on the next time you go to a movie.
