When I turned 13 my parents gave me, what I thought, was a small pair of diamond earrings. It even had the screw backs in 14KG. Fast forward almost 30 years, I finally decided I wanted to change the screw backs and look at diamond jackets. When I went to the jeweler today, she tested them and they were fake. I called my mother and she still insists they are real...while never know if she got scammed or really did not pay for real diamonds- lol. But, still feel disappointed. I may need to give DH a hint for VDay that real ones would be nice.

But, my DD found a diamond pendant that was left over or overlooked at my deceased grandmother's house after the house was cleaned out from the rest of the family. I really wanted her to have something special to remember my grandmother by and was pleasantly surprised that she found this and it was real. According to my jeweler, it is a .33 brilliant round cut w clarity VS and color G in yellow gold. (I may add it to my insurance so she she gave me an appraisal and the apraised value is $1465).

The jeweler steamed it and it shines beautifully. I told her that her great-grandmother is the shining star on her always. She knew I was a little bummed about the earrings and told me I should wear the necklace, for now. Here is a pic:

Sorry to hear about the earrings... hopefully you will remember them fondly in the spirit they were given? Are they set in a hallmarked metal? The necklace looks very feminine and lovely on you.

My folks gave me a pair of jade drops many years before we all understood how most commercial jade was color treated. Now that I've done quite a bit of research on how to identify untreated jadeite, I don't often reach for them, but will wear them occasionally to be mindful of the gift.

Your daughter sounds like a gem herself!

Sorry about the earrings, but the pendant is beautiful and a nice remembrance from your grandmother. Wear it in good health. Such a nice daughter to think of her mom. :)

It's a shame about the earrings but there should still be some sentiment to go with them. The pendant is indeed a treasure found with memories to pass down. What a wonderful daughter to think of you & want you to wear it. She's a treasure as well. :smile1:

Sorry about the earrings, but a happy ending with the diamond pendent. Just think how many people are sold a bill of goods on so called good stones, I was burned too, but I made some good buys since then & gave the sellers some wonderful negative advertising these last few years that has done them no good! This elephant dosent forget & I still spread the word as much as I can, enjoy the stone-stevie...

So sorry about your earrings. Life happens and some times our family do things we wouldn't. Some of my family jewellery is amazing good and some astonishing bad as is real life.

So glad your daughter found such a lovely diamond, she sounds like a real credit to you.
