Hi ladies,

I need help.... I've just started loving Gucci. I bought my first Soho Disco bag 2 months ago and am now thinking of getting one of the above Jackies or two or three or all!!!!

Please help me decide!!

I found a nice never been used Bouvier on EBay and its reasonably priced
I also found a used but still in good condition New Jackie on another forum
I found a beautiful used Jackie on EBay as well and another never been used Jackie in embossed snake on another site,
And I found a brand new Soft Jackie on another website that is much much cheaper than the retail price.

Help!!!

Help!!!

Congrats on your Disco

I think it depends on the size and shape you want. The New Jackies are usually pretty big, the Bouviers fit under the arm really well and for me are the classic.

Gucci don't do and have never done 'embossed snake' so that should be a red flag. Any brand new bag, in season, selling for much cheaper on 'another website' should probably be avoided.

I have a pre-loved Bouvier that's approx. 8 years old and I really love it, totally recommend. I also used to have an (original) Jackie from new which I gave to my niece, I prefer the flatter Bouvier style.

Thank you so much for replying!! Maybe I'll check out the New Jackie and see how its size compares to my 5 feet 2 inches tall body.

The Bouvier sounds like a great bag! I wonder why Gucci stopped producing them.

As for the Jackie in embossed leather, the seller said it was called embossed Animalier Karung but in the end, said it looked like snake!! So maybe that could be fake.

I did see another Jackie on EBay that was also reasonably priced. It also fits my lifestyle as it comes with the extra strap to make it longer...

Ah, OK. There was an Animalier Kurung SS13 used on some bags/shoes/RTW so that might have been it, the same print had been used before on some TF RTW. I have a Bright Horse-bit in that leather/colour/texture. If you do like that one, have it checked out in the 'authenticate this gucci' thread.

Approx. Jackie/Bouvier time line

late 1950s - Bouvier first made

early 1960s - Jackie (like the Bouvier but with a wider gusset) first made

1970s both available

late-90s small Jackies

mid-00s Bouviers and Jackies available, Bouviers in some incredibly detailed Ltd Ed. embellishments

Late-00s New Jackie launched (the very large size scaled down in 2010)

2011 original jackie re-launched with extra length in shoulder strap

2014 - Jackie Soft

Wow!! Thanks for the history lesson! You sure know a lot about Gucci... I guess I would probably get two bags, the Bouvier and maybe the Jackie or New Jackie. The Soft Jackie is way too expensive!!

Oh yes, maybe I should ask you this question. Does the Soft Jackie come in only one size, the large as on the Gucci site? Or is there a smaller size, a 12 inch?

Jackie Softs all one size so far. They are big, not only wide and fairly high but also wide, perfect for someone is 5'11" + :p

Your best (and least expensive option) is to go the pre-loved route. You may also be able to find original Jackies still about with the extendable strap. I think those would be the perfect size for you.

The Jackie Soft Buckets are approx. half the size of the Jackie Softs

Jackie Soft Bucket a bit less expensive @ $2,600

Jackie Soft Suede Bucket @ $2300 (love the web-stripe strap on the tan)

Both bucket bags have an alternative shorter/adjustable strap

Hi again, yesterday I had a chance to pop into a Gucci store and so I got to try out most of the bags. I tried on the Jackie, the New Jackie and the Soft Jackie.

The Jackie is a little small for me, 12 inches....
The New Jackie is just nice
And the Soft Jackie comes in two sizes!! A small and a Large!!
Small is the same as the Jackie, 12 inches
And the Large around 15 inches
I really liked the Large but it is just so expensive!!!

Just to let you know..... 😃

When you say, the New Jackie is "just nice", do you mean it was just okay or it was a contender?

The Jackie Soft is expensive, but then it;s a lot of bag. Perhaps wait to see if some of the colours go on sale in May?

The soft Jackie it gorgeous...but the handle is too short, you can't wear over the shoulder...that is only my pet peeve...and oh the price...:p

It fits over my shoulder and I'm not petit, it tucks up under the arm too, as comfortable and perhaps safer than my BV Cervo hobo.

I love the leather too, it's truly amazing but I still don't understand why they couldn't put lining in (and no I'm not buying the PR "the inner side was specially sueded to act as a protective interior", pleeeeease :nono:)

Oh yes, I meant that the New Jackie is a contender. It is lovely and the size is perfect for me.

Yes just have to wait for the sale but I wonder if they will really put that bag on sale. It is very new.

I agree with you totally on the suede lining. I was asking the SA about it and she said suede is very easy to take care. And no worries about dirtying it. Ha!!!!

It depends on how well it's been selling overall and prob not the neutrals but a few fashion-show colours. And certainly if not in may then Nov
