I’m planning on buying my mum a special gift for her 80th birthday. She has always been there for us all & I want to treat her.

She does not have any high end jewellery. My budget is around £1000. Looking online, I saw some new pieces in the olive leaf collection which looked perfect for her.

A bit about my mum. She wears silver jewellery daily, only wearing gold for best. She loves stud earrings (currently wearing medium silver ball earrings) & pendants (currently wearing a silver drop pendant).

I prefer the specialness of buying her gold from Tiffany but I really want her to wear whatever I buy her. I don’t want it saved for special occasions. I also cannot choose between the earrings & pendant.

What do you all think?

I agree with previous post that the gold is more lush. Given your description that your mom wears silver daily, I would go with the recommendation above and buy both the silver earrings and pendant. It seems she will get the most wear and enjoyment from the silver pieces. Good luck with your decision and happy 80th to your mom! I'm sure she will be thrilled with whatever you choose.

It’s a difficult one isn’t it!! Might be one I need to see in person, see which metal brings out the best of the pearl. Maybe I need to subtly ask if she would consider to wear gold daily…

Just to add - my mum is pretty trendy - she loves to rock wide leg jeans & T-shirt’s.

I love these pieces with a slight preference for the earrings. I prefer gold for pearls because due to concern that the methods used to clean or polish silver would be harmful to the pearls, however I used to have David Yurman silver and pearl earrings and they held up very well.

Something to consider about the necklace, I would check that the clasp is something she can manage on her own. Some tend to be very delicate.

Yes, this. I own 2 Tiffany necklaces and the chains and clasps are quite dainty and small. Honestly, I find them a bit of a pain sometimes. That's why one just stays on 24/7 and the other I wear on occasion.

If she's able to loop a necklace over her head (though I know most Tiffany pendant chain necklaces aren't that long), that would be great. Otherwise, I think earrings are a more practical option to put on and take off. Both my mother and MIL are really into wearing and changing up their earrings.
Personally I go with what my mother wears most frequently. She is not a luxury lover and items that are too expensive or "too nice", she too will just save for special occasions. This is why I've stopped buying her luxury bags and fine jewelry, she only wears them maybe 1-2 times a year. She is far more accepting of either non-brand items or costume jewelry that is well made and has thick gold plating. And once I started buying the items she enjoyed wearing and was comfortable wearing, I'd see them on her frequently.

Happy 80th birthday to your dearest mother! Wishing her many more happy healthy years ahead!
Since you say she prefers silver for an every day look, I think an earring and necklace or earring and bracelet set in silver would be lovely.

I think I’ve decided to actually take her into a Tiffany store & let her choose for herself. She’s never done that before & I think it could be really special. I’ll book an appointment, let them know my budget & ask to see these pieces as well as any others they might recommend. Nearer the time I’m hoping I may be able to up the budget a little too. I’m secretly eyeing the rose gold graffiti “Love” ring so it might be cool if we both pick something.
