AUGUST 1, 2021 - LOUIS VUITTON AIRPLANE BAG BY VIRGIL ABLOH

Marjorie Harvey is comedian Steve Harvey's wife and a noted LV lover. She posted a recent gift unboxing from Louis Vuitton on her Instagram that is creating shockwaves. The LV Airplane Bag is a one of a kind runway piece, valued at about $40,000. That's more than a brand new Tesla! :amazed:

We previously saw this bag back in April 2021 on the LV Fall/Winter 2021 runway and probably expected nobody would ever buy it. But is it too much for LV to give it away for free?

What do you think about companies like Louis Vuitton giving away thousands of dollars of merchandise to influencers, celebrities and other VIP customers?

Would you carry this bag in public? Or keep it as a piece of art?

The older Model S starts at $41,190.
You’re referring to a base Model 3. The Model S, even back in 2012 when it came out, was $60,000 (not accounting for $7500 tax credit) before you checked any boxes.

Nitpicky car details aside, pieces like this airplane are clearly more conversational than functional. Look at us talking about it now. It’s smart marketing.

If I were an influencer, I'd wear it out and about and take tons of pictures doing so. Isn't this part of the deal/ transaction? Gifts for more exposure. Then I'd keep it as a piece of furniture in my house.

These are never meant for sale to the public, but to garner fashion attention.

But funny thing is, isn't LV trying to phase out monogram? Why not do an airplane in empriente leather? Hahaha.

I wonder why LV chose her. I know she has 2.5 million followers, but a good chunk of them are new followers who only followed her AFTER the LV airplane bag video was uploaded on her Instagram earlier this week. There are people who are much more well-known. And they didn't get the LV airplane bag as a gift.

I suspect she's one of the biggest spenders at LV in the past calendar year. That's why they gave it to her?

I very much doubt that it was a gift FROM Louis Vuitton. And the bags that have price tags broadcasted after the show are clearly not 1 of 1 pieces. This bag was available to order from Spring (maybe only by VICs, but that doesn't make a difference here). LV did indeed give away quite a few Multi Pochettes for a campaign, but that was literally a campaign to sell more Multi Pochettes. Vuitton doesn't want to advertise this bag. What they do it graciously let some VICs order and have it. For money. That's all. She or someone did pay for this.
