Agree with the comment above, mechanical is considered a "true watch", but I wouldn't worry about what some group of people think. I'm not sure if it affects the value for Cartier watches that much (I think it does more so for other brands e.g. AP). You could try to research resale sites and see if mechanical Cartier watches hold value better than quartz. I voted for the RG just because I love this particular watch in rose gold. What color jewelry do you wear most?

I love yellow gold so that’s my vote. I don’t like the rose/coppery tones in rose gold but that’s personal preference. I have this watch and love it. I don’t mind that it’s quartz. You can always get a mechanical watch like an AP or Rolex down the line. Or look into Jaeger LeCoultre- they make similar watches that are mechanical IMG_4362.jpeg

In the watch world automatic (mechanical) watches are considered true watches and will hold their value better than quartz.
However, YG tends to hold value better than RG (in general).
So it's a bit tricky with the choices you have.

I'd say just go with what suits your aesthetic and lifestyle.

While I prefer automatic watches from a watch-fan POV (I'm just a casual fan, not a die hard collector lol), I rarely reach for mine. I just love the convenience of my quartz watches for daily use.
If you already have a collection of watches going I don't see why not for the RG. However, I would prefer the YG, quartz or not.

However, if holding value is what you prioritize, another thing to think about is that Cartier is a fine jewelry/high jewelry brand. Not a watch brand. Yes they make beautiful, classic, timeless watches, but it's not what they are known for and not what they specialize in.

If you really want a watch that holds value, it's better to look at Rolex, AP, PP, Piaget, IWC, Omega, etc.

Great advice given already. I'd just say be true to what you actually want to wear, and worry less about resale. If you're all about no fuss, get the quartz. Personally, I don't wear quartz for my "good" watch, because for real $$ I prefer a truly timeless mechanical watch (mine is Rolex).

Just to add another comment...some are commenting that quartz is easier or less fuss, but I've found the opposite to be true. All my quartz watches are sitting in my jewelry box "frozen in time" because I find it such a hassle to take them for battery replacements every 2 or so years (geez, that sounds like the epitome of lazy lol!). There is something so romantic about hand-wound and they are built to last forever!
