Have to admit I didn't see most of the nominated movies. Our little town doesn't get any but the biggest name movies. We did see The Blind Side, and would applaud an Academy Award for Sandra Bullock. Did anyone else read that Julia Roberts turned down the role and now she's pissed that it became such a blockbuster ($240 million gross)? I read that around the time of the Golden Globes.

I don't know if the expansion of Best Picture category to 10 is a good idea.

When people ask what are my awards show picks? I always pick two: the one I really want to win and my second choice.


Sorry, I should have said: purple for my first choice, blue for my second.

boxermom, go online and find a site that has free movies. That's what I do. Just watched An Education this evening, and I plan to watch several other nominated movies that way...

I don't know about this expansion to 10 movies being eligible for Best Picture. That's excessive, and I hope it isn't a sign of things to come--10 Best Actors, 10 Best Actress, 10 Best Directors, and so on and so forth.

Right now, I only have five of those movies on my list to see. I just watched An Education, which is a good character-driven movie. Next, I have to see Up in the Air, Up, A Serious Man, and Nine. I want to see The Hurt Locker, but war movies and I don't mix well. I'd be covering my eyes for a good majority of the film. In any case, once I see the rest of the movies on my list, I think I'll be in a better position to say if my pick will be different than what I think will win.

Here are my picks for what I think will win (based solely on GG, SAG, and DGA wins, and not about what I would like to win). The picks in royal blue are what I would like (there are overlaps in two cases):

I'll wait and make my picks until I see a few more of the movies (still need see "Up In The Air", "An Education", and "Precious" - maybe this weekend I'll get around to at least one of them), but I am hoping Sandra Bullock wins for "The Blind Side". Not only did Sandra do an amazing job in film, but it would be so wonderful for the real-life family of Michael Oher: The Tuohy's.
Also saw Mo'Nique on Oprah a few weeks ago and was so impressed with her and all the things that she's had to overcome. I'm rooting for her in the Supporting Actress category in the meantime, until I get around to seeing the movies.

Also, not a fan of having 10 Best Picture nominations...that seems like a bit much. And is it me, or Meryl Streep nominated EVERY SINGLE YEAR? I heard today that this is her 16th nomination....jeez, give someone else a chance, Meryl.

i am absolutely rooting for the hurt locker in every category. there was not a better film this year. sadly, i think the odds aren't that high for it.. but it truly DOES deserve picture, director, actor and original screenplay.

Avatar - no. Hurt Locker, KB, Jeremy Renner yes PLEASE.

Waltz was the only worthy thing about IB, but he definitely was QUITE worthy, and 100% deserving of the Oscar. Can't wait to see him in other things.


Most glaring, offensive omission was def that of Sam ROckwell for Moon. If that doesn't truly impress, nothing does.

Mo'Nique is considered the favorite for winning Best Supporting Actress by just about everyone. I think it would be a huge upset if someone else wins. Am I mistaken or has she lost a significant amount of weight? She looks great and always has, IMO.
