Can't speak for everyone, but it is traditional in Judaism to get married with a plain gold band. Many of my friends also purchased a diamond wedding band at that time or added one later.

I used my grandmothers plain band to get married, and started wearing my pave band directly after the wedding. I never wear my grandmother's ring, though.

the rabbi will marry you with any band you choose.
unless it is possibly a hassidic or orthodox rabbi that may be more strict. in general, a reform rabbi will be fine with your choice of band. it's just tradition for the plain band, since it's unending with no breaks in it.

I have a plain band and a diamond band. Mostly because I like the look of the plain next to my setting but love the bling too. I also like that it acts as a spacer so my e-ring doesn't get eaten alive by the diamonds.

Some women have anniversary bands for milestones...ie 5, 10, 25 years. Others use them to commemorate a birth or another special moment (some jewelers call these 'celebration rings'). Stacking has also become more popular just for the look. And then there are religious aspects which I didn't know about - very interesting! The solid gold band has beautiful symbolism in the Jewish faith.

I'm also Jewish. Both my husband & I got gold bands, as well as Diamonds bands. Both of mine looked gorgeous with my engagement ring (Together or seperately).

For my wedding, ceremony I used my plain gold ring.

Though I usually my diamond band...my husband rarely does. He loves his gold band!

I'm not Jewish but I have 5 bands I think{?}
I have 4 different blingy ones to stack and change out for fun and one thick plain one to wear when I was pregnant and my rings no longer fit.

Some people get married with a simple band for the wedding and get another ring later with diamonds all the way around to represent 'eternity' - That's what my parents did.

I got married with two- a solid gold one and one with diamonds on top. I did it so I could always wear a ring and not have to worry about losing a diamond if I was cleaning, going to the beach, etc. I've since gotten an eternity band, too. :smile1: That one is white gold, so they're all different.

I'm Jewish and got married 18 years ago. Our Reform Rabbi would not marry us using a diamond wedding band. So I borrowed a a plain 14 carat yellow gold one just for the ceremony. Afterwards, I immediately put on the diamond one for the party!

I did the same thing - married with my grandmother's plain gold band which also was put on my index finger which goes way back in th Talmud which believed that the
vein on the index finger was closer to the heart. After the ceremony I wore my diamond band on 3rd finger left hand.

Swanky ~ I love your stacks...absolutely gorgeous!;)

I am bumping this because I am about to celebrate an anniversary and was thinking of having a wedding band with diamonds made. I currently wear a platinum (with a small amount of yellow gold) band which matches my e-ring. There are no diamonds on my current wedding band.

Those who "upgraded" to a diamond wedding band, do you just wear that now? Do you wear them both together?

If I have a diamond band made, I am just not sure if I just "replace" the simple band I wear now or wear the new diamond one on the other hand or both together? I hope this make sense.

I appreciate your thoughts on this.
