Hi ladies,

I'm looking at buying a bag and I've come across two that I'm currently debating over.

The two bags are pretty similar and in quite similar condition( from the photos I've been sent) and are actually almost the same price (there's only really a difference of 200-300 dollars - which when you're buying an hermes... really becomes pocket change)

I was wondering what you ladies think about the two leathers as having done a bit of reading, it seems courcheval is the predecessor to epsom? Anyone have a preference for one or the other?

Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can impart with me!

I've had bags in both Courchevel and Epsom: I MUCH prefer Courchevel hands down. I feels nicer to the touch, Epsom feels like cardboard, it's a bit shinier, which I prefer and I think it ages better than Epsom. I've had one Epsom Birkin and the corners got scratched straight away and I'm careful with my bags. I soon sold it because, although I had Special Ordered it, I loved the colours but not the leather. I have recently bought a pre-owned Courchevel Bolide from 1982 and it's perfect. I also have a Kelly, always, in C bought from Hermès in 1991 and it's held up great aswell.

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions but I'm in love with Courchevel!

Thanks! This is kind of the experience I was hoping to hear! I have read courcheval is also a lot more care free as well ontop of everything so I was like but I wasn't sure if the ten year difference in the date the bag was made would make Epsom more preferable or not

Great question
Just from my experiences - I like a structured bag (and also don't like slouch at all) but I don't want the leather to feel plasticky. I found the very best leather is courchevel, the epsom predecessor. It's stiff and structured, but not overly so - and even maintains a gorgeous sheen! I can't tell if it's like that because it has aged (mine is ~20 years old), and if epsom will age to that or not, given that amount of time.
