18k brass?

well I was looking to get this necklace but I don't want it if its going to tarnish...

I have a JCrew bracelet in 18K gold plated brass, and yes, the gold plating has worn off in a couple places, and you can see tarnished brass. I know that brass can be polished, and I think that would make it look much better, I just haven't done it yet.
Apart from gently worn fashion jewelry, vermeil jewelry is simply not acceptable.
Most likely the gold is a few microns thick and will wear off in less than a month of regular wear.
My advice is to invest in a small piece of gold for an enduring look, to consider silver if your budget won't allow gold, or to wear naked metals such as brass or copper with the foreknowledge that your piece will patina quickly yet evenly.
If you want a versatile and high-shine look precious is always the way to go.
But if you love it and you plan to wear it lightly than by all means go ahead! It's a very playful yet sophisticated design.
