Hello.
We are celebrating a cultural milestone for my daughter. A quinceañera. Culturally, it’s a pretty big deal. A party show stopper is the surprise gift that is present sometime throughout the night. Several of my girlfriends, cousins, and aunts are all contributing to the surprise gift. We decided to go with a handbag. A monogrammed pochette. I personally don’t own a LV so I have nothing to go by, but my question is… would this be an ideal gift for a 15yo. She’s responsible and overall amazing kid. Our thoughts are that this would be a special gift given my many women (godmothers) in her life who love and wish her well. Who wants her to have a keepsake item that carries her into college. I love the idea but second guessing myself on all of this being materialist.

I’m guessing any gift that is an item rather than an experience or a charitable cause is more materialistic than not.
However, the way you’ve described it, it’s a gift by the women in her family for a celebration of her ‘becoming a woman’. I think that’s very sweet and I’m sure she’ll treasure the item as such.
Has she expressed that she would want a designer handbag? Or would she like something else “more”? Like a trip or some fund for college?

While I love Louis Vuitton and own several bags from the brand, I find it challenging to predict a teenager's taste in bags unless you know she specifically loves the LV monogram. A great alternative to consider is jewelry. Does she have a favorite brand? Perhaps a small diamond piece, like the C de Cartier or D'Amour collections from Cartier, or a DBTY necklace from Tiffany. These timeless pieces are something she can cherish and wear throughout her life, serving as a constant reminder of the wonderful women in her family who love and support her.

P.S. Don’t pay too much attention to the online price of the C de Cartier necklace. It's price depends on the size of the diamond and you can get one for below $2K.

I think that it is a very nice gift. Monogram will never go out of style, and you know her very well, if she has the slightest interest in fashion and beauty, a Vuitton bag will be appreciated no matter what.
Have you been thinking about the Pochette Accessoires? Or another style of pochette?
Only asking, because if it is the Pochette Accessoires, then a Mon Monogram version with her favourite colour would be even nicer (if hopefully still available in stores), although it has a lead time of 2-3 months.

Depends on her interests. Does she like bags and fashion? Has she ever talked about wanting a nice bag or something fashionable?
If so, then I think it is a wonderful and appropriate gift. Being from her family, I'm sure she'll treasure it more for sentimental and family reasons than it just being a luxury piece.

However, if she's not into bags and fashion, show little to no interest in accessories, or is totally not girly (like I was when I was 15, tomboy + nerd who wore hoodies and jeans and was into Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings), then I'm not sure if it is to her current interests and tastes.

Does your daughter like and use handbags? From what I've seen where i live, most teen girls don't carry handbags. I've tried to encourage my own teen to carry one to no avail. Obviously all kids are different but if this is the case, I was going to suggest jewelry as well. While the handbag is a nice gesture, I think jewelry is more timeless and unless your daughter specifically wants that LV handbag, the generous gift-bearers may be making decision off their own taste and not the guest of honor. Also, while I would appreciate the generosity, I might feel a bit strange as an adult to have a young daughter carrying an LV bag when I don't even own one myself. Just my 2 cents. Congratulations to you and your daughter on this special occasion and I'm sure any gift she receives will be meaningful.

I had a similar experience as well with my daughter. As @stacy_natalie describes her own DD, that was mine to a T also. The only time she wore a bag was to carry her stuff to school - she used a MK tote instead of a backpack. We ended up deciding on a nameplate necklace and she absolutely loved it. One of the only pieces she still wears constantly.
Congrats on your DD's upcoming Quinceañera! ¡Felicidades!

Hola 💕 I know you are second guessing yourself, because culturally it is imbedded in us “we can’t be materialistic” “we have to be frugal” “selfless” you know the list… I really think a piece from LV would be a great gift that will age with her. I think it’s okay to let her know she can have nice things without feeling guilty. Goes for you all well, since I know there will be a lot of whispers about her getting one 🙄😒.

Don’t second guess yourself 🥰 I think she will love it!

I think it is a lovely gift and would encourage you not to second guess a wonderful moment like this.

I might also second the suggestion of jewellery, just for the longevity of the life of it. She could have it forever as a talisman of the love of all those beautiful women in her life. Canvas only lasts so long.

But you know your culture and daughter best!
