I am thinking of splurging for a 100% cashmere coat to wear for many years.

What are the pros and cons? I have never had one. I have one that's made of wool (70%) and cashmere (30%) blend.

Thank you for the help!

I have a perfectly strict and straight black 'Crombie-style' coat from Browns own label (years old). I also have a double-sided grey/off white 'dressing-gown' cashmere from Joseph that I wear without the belt, that's a more oversize look. Years ago I invested in a camel colour Dolce & Gabbana wrap-style and it never really suited me, so lovely on others though. Just make sure the coat is in your sig style or it'll be an expensive mistake.

It depends on the quality and thickness but a 100% is usually lighter than a cash/wool mix of a similar brand and will also be a little less hardy. Quality is everything though so it will depend.

The pro is that the coat will be lighter and much softer than a cashmere-wool blend one.

@papertiger mentioned the main con: it’s a lot more fragile than a wool coat and will require careful upkeep to be with you on the long run.

That being said, it’s a worthwhile investment if you find a style that you love and see yourself wearing on the long run.

Depending on where you live, I dont think I own any 100% cashmere coats bc in nyc, it's either too cold, or too warm and I have other jackets for early fall or spring like weather. Really good quality ones cost an arm and a leg, and they are more tempting to pests like moths.
If you do find one that's perfect, and is on sale for a great deal, get it. Otherwise, I'd go for cashmere/wool.

I love Cashmere!! It is warm and light, super soft to the touch. Since i fell in love with it, i decided to switch most of my sweaters to Cashmere 100% (bought mainly from Posh). Only downside beside price is that you have to be super careful to store so it will not have holes. I have to buy moth balls from Japan so it does not smell like one.

Based on my experience, most cashmere coats will pill, unless it's exceptional quality, for example Brunello Cucinelli and to a lesser extent, Loro Piana. Cucinelli's cashmeres do not show any wear for me and do not pill, while the nap on Loro Piana's cashmere disappears over time. Most coats will not age well unless you find one that's made from a top quality fabric, but that will cost you a lot of money.

I have one pure cashmere coat - max mara labbro. I love it, so beautiful and soft. Pretty warm too. SA laughed at me when I told her I would wear it in the spring and she was right- it was way too warm for a Toronto spring! As for wear, it’s exceptional quality! I don’t baby my coats and I wore it almost every day this past winter - it still looks brand new.
