So I was walking to the bus stop the other day. I had M Reg Alexa with me that I carried in my hand because I had a tote on my shoulder. I noticed that the Alexa felt much nicer in my hand than most other top handle bags, as in the one handle felt less of a chore for my hand than the other bags I carry - Alexa is my only bag with a single top handle.
By this I mean that when I carry a bag with two top handles (f.e. LC Le Pliage) it feels like I have to squeeze the two handles together and also carry the weight of the bag. This effect multiplies when the 2-top handle bag is an open design like LC Roseau SH. When the bag is stuffed full the difference is really noticeable. Especially in the chilly weather when your fingers freeze to death anyways.

Anyne else notice the same? Do you prefer 1 or 2 top handles on a bag?

PS. Pls post pics of your favorite top handle bag if you have one!

Majority of mine are 2 handle. Prefer.
In my twisty logic, back-up safety lessons whisper, "If 1 handle breaks, the 2nd will hold bag."

Mulberry primrose = 1 handle:

Great for quick grab. But carry with strap mostly.

Bags without straps--if can, still carry on shoulder.
Exception is mulberry dz bayswater tote(older version). Hand carry, 2 handles. Bag feels held closed better with 2, imo.

I have mostly double handle bags. They distribute the weight better I think. With a single handle the bag will sometimes tilt forward or backwards and look funny after a while, and when you open them you have to do so in such a way that the contents won't fall out. The double handle bags usually have wider openings and zippers and the single handle ones usually have a clasp or front lock so you have to almost hold the bag to get inside. I have a few bags with one handle but those are small ones for when I am going out for an evening and not carrying a lot. During the daytime my preference is for two because of bag stability. For my shoulder I like a single, wide strap because I like to use most of my bags crossbody.

Just realized I only have ONE with a single handle. It's an older MK which I only shoulder carry, and it is more comfortable. Both types work for me so it's not really something I need to consider when buying a bag.
I just tried hand carrying some of my double handled satchels and you're right it is more to squeeze together, a single handle would be more comfortable.

I can’t do double handed bags. They make me crazy. And I keep buying them and then not using them. If they are on my shoulder one always falls off, if they are in my hand it feels too awkward to squeeze etc. One handle for me
