1 Chanel classic flap or 2 Lady Dior

Dear ladies,

I am preparing to buy a new bag. My problem is as I don’t know is Chanel worth that money. I am listening stories like quality isn’t great, it was double cheaper few years ago etc…I like classic flaps and lady Dior shape. In case i would buy classic flap it would be medium black one. Other option is medium black lady Dior and mini beige/gray lady Dior. I am posting my question here on Chanel thread as I believe you all prefer classic flap over lady Dior. What would you choose?

The dior thread may give you a different response. :smile: I would try to see and try on both in person before deciding. If you fall in love with one or the other, that would be your answer. FWIW, I’ve had excellent experiences with chanel and dior bags. I’ve owned chanel ones, all except one, bought from Saks or 57th st (on and off from 1990-2020). And I have two dior (A mens saddle ans a tapestry LD) But experiences vary widely, and I purchased my bags, and saw them in person beforehand.

ETA: with price increases, if you decide you want both, I would get the chanel first. But, you need to love the specific bag. don’t buy simply bc of FOMO.

Chanel CF and LD are totally different bags. Which design fits your lifestyle? LD is basically top handle only, unless you plan on wearing cross body but the handles can be annoying. The medium CF is shoulder carry.

Also, I wouldn’t think too much about how much less expensive the CF used to be. Everything used to be less expensive and hindsight is 20-20. And remember, the price will only continue to go up - so buy what makes your heart sing!

A bag in hand is worth two on the shelf, or however the old saying goes haha.

I think I am more in love in lady Dior when I see them in real. I like the look of classic flaps and how you can style it but when I look at quality Lady Dior looks more special in my eyes, but because it’s top handle i don’t know how practical it is. This is why I was thinking 1 Chanel or 2 Lady Dior- one for day and 1 for night. Also I don’t know is it just me but Chanel in my eyes is more for going out… not for day…

I am getting this argument from ladies who were buying Chanel from 2005 till now. Now they are moving to other brands saying only Hermes is worth that price. They are saying classic flap isn’t in the same league and not worth that money

Simply talking about style, both are beautiful but for me hands down the Chanel because I can wear it more comfortably on the shoulder and I find it versatile as it can be dressed up or down. Dior in my opinion is more dressy, I wouldn't wear it as often as it just doesn't work for my casual style. I was considering a white Dior but I scratched that idea because I don't want it sitting in my closet. Regarding quality, cannot compare to the Dior because I've never seen one in person.
But if you take your time and carefully select your handbag, you will find a great quality Chanel piece.

Who is “they” really? There are still so many of us that do like Chanel, be it for their designs or for availability. In fact, I was considering a Kelly 25 in a pale pink color (mauve sylvestre or something similar) then I saw this season’s iridescent pink WOC from Chanel and was blown away. For me, I get better cost per wear out of the WOC at 1/3 of the price. It really depends on what you want. I should say that I * personally * would not buy a medium classic flap at the current price, but that’s because I don’t love them that much and they just don’t make sense for my lifestyle (live in a very warm climate and rarely carry more than lip balm, hand lotion and hand sani). But there are others who have 10 CFs and are not tired of them, because they love them.

Comparing Chanel to H is hard. Two totally different offerings, styles and shopping experiences. It sounds like you prefer the LDs! And there are so many variations, D-lite, ABC, mini. A lot to choose from. Take your time

This weekend i became totally obsessed with a potential new chanel. I have 3 LDs and a dior panarea that I’ve used since I was 15 (!!!) and a diorissimo, so I decided i wanted a chanel now. I walked into the store and I was really underwhelmed… I found one color I liked, it’s a lovely day bag and when I see cool colors on others I really love the look, but I wouldn’t pay £8.5k for it. I also wanted the white iridescent one and it’s not being produced anymore.

I walked into the Dior and fell in love with the purple jasmine mini and bought that instead. I then found a fantastic deal for a second hand chanel flap, for basically half the price, so got that. Waiting to receive it.

Bottom line for me is I wouldn’t pay full price for Chanel, but I do want one in my closet, but I would pay full price for LD. They are BEAUTIFUL. But as some people above say - they’re very dressy (which works for me because I have a very dressy kind of style, I’m not cool and casual like my sister).

Definitely walk into a store and try both on extensively. You will fall in love with one, and if you don’t, just wait it out
