I love, love, love the old Coach bags with leather that's nearly thick enough to be made into a saddle, and is oh-so soft. Does anyone know of any modern brands of bags made with leather that thick?

I buy vintage Coach bags on ebay but they're often on their last legs by the time I get them. I'd love to buy a bag with a bit more life left in it.

Do you own any of the Coach legacy bags from '06 and '07 such as the Leigh, Gigi, Legacy shoulder bag, Thompson, Lily, etc. The legacy bags from those 2 years have the thick heavy vintage type leather and you can still find them brand new with tags. Just go on ebay and do a search for Coach legacy. The Bleecker bags from those time periods also have the
thick, heavy vintage leather.
Just make sure that the legacy bags you look at are from '06 or '07 because they were made from vintage leather and the '08 legacy bags were made from the new garcia leather.

You can also go to the Coach subforum here on the purse forum and get more info about them.

I also wanted to add that you should also make sure that when checking into legacy bags...make sure you look at the ones with the legacy Striped interior lining because Coach also came out with the legacy line that was made exclusively for the Coach outlets and they had regualar signature C's in either pink or blue on the inside. The outlet versions don't have as thick of leather from what I've heard over on the Coach subforum.

Here are a few examples...( Not my listings, I don't know if these sellers are trusted sellers or anything, I'm just listing them for examples of what to look for )...

Here is an original '06 legacy shoulder bag....

This one is the outlet version of the '06 shoulder bag...

Then, here is a legacy bag from '08 which is made from Garcia leather and is a completely different kind of leather, if you want vintage leather then, you won't want the '08 legacy bags...

Oh my! That's all very interesting Coach10619! I had no idea. I'm going to print out your message.

I'm hesitant to buy on ebay because there are so many Coach fakes. But my local Coach store (Macy's) never carries any bags except for the fabric ones. But I'll give ebay a closer look from now on.

The "vintage styles" that are sold on Coach.com...are those the heavy-style leather or the modern thin leather?

Thank you for all your help!;)

Do you have a Coach outlet near you?

All of the newer styles are made with the new leather but, you can still order some of the older classic styles on Coach.com under the "Coach originals" tab.

The Coach originals are still made with the vintage leather.

If you like those classic styles, I think you would LOVE the '06 and '07 legacy line. A lot of the women over on the Coach subforum have thier whole Coach collections based on the legacy or bleecker lines. I only own one of each, I have the '07 shoulder bag in walnut

The leather is really thick and heavy ( just like saddle leather ) but, at the same time, it's really smooth and soft and the hardware is a thick heavy solid brass. These bags are made to last a lifetime.
I also own a leather bleecker bag
http://www.coach.com/assets/product_images/drilldown1/11422_d1.jpg <--the one I have is Dark "ink" blue and the leather on it is also nice and thick but, is still soft and smooshy and it also has solid brass chuncky hardware. When I compare my 2 bags, I think that the leather on the legacy bag is just a little more thick and a little more stiff than the leather on my bleecker bag.
I actually used to only buy Coach's signature fabric bags but, one I got my hands on the vintage leather that these bags are made from, I don't think I will ever buy another signature Coach bag again.

If you do find something you like on ebay you can always have someone verify it's authenticity before you buy it by posting a link of the auction on the authenticate this Coach area here on TPF...

These women are great at helping people buy Authentic bags from ebay. They will help you stay away from the fakes on there.
I'm sure they can even point you towards a seller on there who is known for selling authentic.
I can normally spot a fake on ebay so, you can also always PM me, if you need any help with anything.

Another thing you may want to check out is the reference library so that you can look at pictures and get the style numbers of the bags...

I just noticed that your in the midwest. I'm in Iowa :cutesy:
There is a Coach outlet in Williamsburg, Iowa and there is also a couple in Illinois near Chicago. If you live anywhere near them, you may want to check those out.

Thank you so very, very much for the info! I LOVE your two bags. I dearly wanted to buy one of the "bucket" style bags but read some message in the Coach forum from someone reporting that the leather was very thin. But that was in the 2008 line. I wasn't aware that it was thicker in earlier years. I'm going to need to start snooping around ebay.

I live up in Wisconsin, but can't do any highway driving so am unable to get to a Coach outlet. Maybe that is a good thing. So mailorder is my only hope.

I adore the very old Coach bags I've bought on ebay--an old Station Bag, a Willis bag, and a City bag. I wouldn't mind buying nicer-looking modern versions but I worry that the leather wouldn't be as rich. Perhaps it's time to take a plunge and order one of the "Classics" from Coach.com.

Thank you so much for all your help!

Thanks, LuluMae! I'll give those a look. The only Lucky bag I've seen at the local stores was their "stash bag." I'll see if I can track down some of their other bags. Thanks!

Fossil Fifty-Four (Not Fossil) make VERY thick leather bags, in nice styles. Coach actually makes their leather bags! Fossil has their own stores and they are carried by some department stores as well.

Your welcome!
Just make sure if you buy from ebay ( or any other website ) to have it checked out at the Authenticate this Coach area.
You may also want to check out Bonanzle.com a lot of TPFers are selling on bonanzle instead of ebay now. I wish you luck! I'm sure you will find that perfect bag soon!
