OMG- Chanel B-day present from Mother-in-Law!!!!

So what bag is this? It is made of fabric not leather. I have never seen one of these.

(My husband got P*SSED because I said 'Well I still need a GST in leather'!!!!)

So the bag is not a satin-y fabric it feels more like wool or cotton. So is this considered an evening bag or a day bag...or a whenever I wanna rock it bag?!?!?!
