Prince Andrew

I didn't even know who the director of Cuties was until I saw it in this thread. Can't speak for everyone else, but while I love to support underrepresented groups in any domain... these people are not immune to criticism. They aren't perfect. I'm an immigrant WOC. I'm not perfect, I don't always have perfect execution, and I think it's perfectly valid to criticize my work or anyone's work.

I'm not commenting any more on the movie itself since I haven't watched it so I think it's fair for posters to say, watch it before you form an opinion. But I'm just responding to the race/gender element of this. I will say I am also particularly sensitive to any themes of exploitation of women of color from poor backgrounds (very relevant to this thread actually).

I guess no one is interested in reading the interview. It seems posters have made their minds up about a movie they haven’t seen and artist they aren’t curious in learning about. I guess I’m unusual these days...I always research everything before I form an opinion and I actually love the process of discovery :-s Oh well probably not a welcome sentiment in the gossip forum lol!

I read the interview... I've watched a few live interviews she did too. I have nothing bad to say about the director's intentions; I think the idea of the movie is great but the execution of it is flawed. I hope she continues to make movies, and they get better and better so this is nothing about her as a person at all.

This is not that complicated.... I hate Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill films; I think they glorify and desensitize us to violence. I do not think he's a bad man and I have watched his subsequent films and enjoyed them, but you can't pay me to watch more Kill Bill films than I have. I don't need to know his intentions to know that I squirm watching his movies and it's not enjoyable to me. If people here have seen clips and are bothered by them, I don't think they need to watch the full thing to know it's a movie containing scenes or themes that bother them. I think it's absolutely fair for you to say "watch the movie before you form an opinion," but I think it's also fair for someone to watch clips of something and know it's not the right movie for them. This is the reason people read reviews or watch trailers.

Yep! I don't research extensively about a director before I watch something. I watch the trailer, if I don't like it, then I don't watch the movie. Other people like to research that's fine. I didn't like the promo material of Cuties either. It's easy to say oh the message is this but if the message doesn't come through from the materials then it has failed to send that message. I also have low tolerance of graphic violence or horror so I would never watch Kill Bill myself.

Why can't people make peace with the fact that not everyone always likes the same things?

I agree, I was confused because you posted...

In any case of course everyone is allowed personal choice! I don't like most Tartino films either...but I don’t try to stop others from watching them. And I don’t publish reviews of them based on a clip. I simply don’t see them myself.

Totally agree! Again it’s personal preference. I think the issue here is a young WOC is being denigrated by older white men based on their perception of the film, they’re calling for investigations and trying to have her “cancelled” despite never even seeing the film.

She is NOT Epstein and while I don’t know if I’ll watch the movie either now I understand her intention and would hate for that message to get lost amidst the misguided outrage and accusations.

No one is asking you to like or even watch the movie, I am wondering why people are criticizing a movie without even watching it.
Anyways, it must be a cultural thing.

Way above my pay grade; however, the money it takes to run operations of this magnitude must emanate from something other than individuals.. either way, I'd speculate that JE must have turned the tables on everyone, (biting the hand feeds you comes to mind, as does servant/master).
So what is your hypothesis regarding his master?

I don't believe she is, not at all! I read stuff against the movie but I have not come across that comparison at all! There are people who are calling it child porn which I think it's not the case. It's grossly exaggerated!

@limom be angry all you want but the forum policy is no politics and it has no place in this thread!

It is being promoted as being a coming-of-age story. Most people don't think of 11-year-olds as being on the brink of adulthood. Had the film been about 14-year-olds I doubt there would have been any uproar. Girls exploring their budding sexuality at 11 makes people uncomfortable for a reason. I'm glad it has a nice message at the end but the film isn't a concept everyone has to embrace.

Hey y'all! Can we get back to discussing the monster Epstein?
Grazie!!

Prego ;)

Sasha Swire, wife of a British former Tory minister, Sir Hugo Swire, has this to add to our understanding of prince Andrew's character, in her upcoming tell all book:
"When Sir Hugo is knighted at Windsor Castle in 2016 he is worried it will be done by Prince Andrew, saying: 'I'm not kneeling down in front of that man. He might knight me with his todger' "

"Todger". God, I love the Queen's English

Slashed by her poison pen: They're the wickedest political diaries since Alan Clark's. Now, in this blistering review, we reveal the full glorious carnage of Sasha Swire's character assassinations
  • Sasha Swire's upcoming book takes swipes at many high-profile Cabinet figures
  • She also takes aim at the Royal Family and shares controversial anecdotes
  • The diarist with the wicked pen is the wife of former Tory minister Sir Hugo Swire

Sasha’s book is being serilaized in The Times - subscription only, and I have read many of the bits and bobs
not flattering to Andrew, confirming our worst opinions of him , always on the lookout for more money so susceptible to doing Less than appropriate business deals and friends

It’s been speculated by higher ups, that Epstein was working for intelligence agencies in order to get dirt on political leaders and such, and was set up as a mystery financier.

Nothing else makes sense to me.

I think she seems an awful person for divulging private conversations (even celebs and politicians have a right to privacy) but some of it was entertaining, non the less
