no really what I expected to see this morning, I was so hoping this would be resolved

Trading standards??
Then ring them and inform them you've opened an official complaint against them

Just had text from Parcel Force to tell me they are delivering from Selfridges today. I really do not know WTH is going on. And woryingly, neither does Selfridges.
That is an excellent idea - I will first email, telling them I'll be opening an official complaint. And I will then call.
ETA - sent it.

Well that did the trick! Refund has now been processed, I have email confirmation and a ref number, and the money is going direct to my bank account (as opposed to PP) within the next few days.
