Hi ladies,

I have a white Balenciaga bag pictured below. I love the style of it but I have 2 small kids and white is very very bad with kids. i am wondering if anyone has ever tried dying their bag to a different colour? Can this be done or am I just dreaming ?ImageUploadedByPurseForum1396148880.181511.jpg

I've made dyed one of my bag and i'm happy with the result. My bag was light blue and I found the color too light so I decided to dye it. There are a lot of DIY on the internet (you tube…) but I finally made up my mind to bring my bag at a leather professional. I've paid about 69$.
I'm looking for some pics or links in the purse forum

Get it done professionally. I dyed mine myself and it turned out baaaaad! The dye stained my shirt even after I treated it with this thing that was supposed to make the dye stay. I used it once and now it just sits in my closet.
I used an alcohol dye so it would penetrate the leather and not have that shiny coating and it turned out uneven too. It's gonna cost more to have someone else do it but it'll be worth it.

There must be an older thread, where Barbara of lovin' my bag warned to dye white Bals!
These bags are finished in a way that makes it almost impossible for the dye to penetrate the leather!
The results are not good! The dye covers the leather like plastic !!
I'd sell the bag and get one in an other colour!
Any other colour can be dyed.

Thanks for your info. I may try to do just that !

Hi ladies, I have a red leather balenciaga.. but I wanted to dye it to black, I dont know if it will work because the red color is not a light color.

Has anyone done it before and can tell me about it?

Thanks

I dyed my envelope from violet to black. it turned out good and very even in color but I don't like the shininess of it.

I found a you tube video on it and she used the fiebings penetrating dye and the terrago shine after the penetrating dye. that's what I did. the fiebings was actually enough but the color was black enough and it sort of hard a bronze look to it. the terrago is definitely a jet black.

I'm thinking of bringing my Day bag to a professional to get it dyed to black. Did u experience any bleeding or color transfer from the new black dye to ur arms or clothings after the dye? I'm so worried because I'm thinking of dyeing it to black and use it for work. But my uniform is light colored. I do not wish the black dye would stain my uniform.

This First was faded to almost white when I got it second hand. The mirror is/was still the original turquoise color. I found Fiebing’s dye to match. The first coat was horribly splotchy. I almost wished I had left it faded. I should have conditioned it first. After it sat for a couple of years, a dear TPF friend inspired me to continue the dyeing process. It’s still patchy, but it was patchy when I got it and I love it this way. No top coat. Just Apple Leather Conditioner. CD7A4BD6-65AC-487B-8A5D-41C1323C1A4D.jpeg

I’ve recently dyed my orange mini to black. Well my sister sent it to me from overseas. She had it professionally done overseas but when it arrived in the mail, the paint peeled etc. It was horrible. I ended up DIY’ing it, stripping the paint and applying a few coats of dye. I’m pretty happy with it.
I used Angelus leather products. I had it stored for a while and just pulled it out today. Looking at it, it has a little bit of peeling (mainly the creased parts), a dot or two on the body, but that’s it. It turned out well. Anyway here are some photos. It shows:

1. when I received it in the mail with the peels
2. When I stripped out the paint
3. during the dye-ing process
4. Finish product

update: This is the finished product after I conditioned the leather today. As mentioned, it does have some peeling as shown in the photos but I can easily touch those up. It does look really shiny though which I actually like. I’m guessing it will tone down a little bit after the conditioner has “dried”, maybe.... who knows! Let’s wait and see.

I bought another project Balenciaga bag. I’ll try to document the process and give you an update.
