Can Nordstrom Chanel still process phone orders?

hi all,

not sure if this thread belongs in the right place so i apologize in advance. please feel free to move if needed.

i've read on a few threads that chanel has recently changed their policy and tightened up a bit in regard to phone orders. is it true that nordstrom chanel will no longer place phone orders? i want to order through nordstrom specifically because i am a cardholder and would like points on my first chanel bag purchase. no nordstrom locations that carry chanel are nearby (i'm from the bay area - closest would be LA i believe?) so i'm wondering if i can place orders via phone. if anyone could answer this, it would be much appreciated! thank you

They can no longer send classics. You have to be in the store to purchase. They may still be able to send seasonal bags, but I am not entirely sure.

You can go to your local Nordstrom (even if it doesn't have a Chanel handbags dept) & ask a handbags SA to locate the bag for you. You'd need the style/codes (check on here or the Chanel website for that) so the SA can look it up in the system. If it's in stock in the company (even classics), they'll ship it to you. I did this by phone with a random SA at SCP because I was too lazy to drop by the store. Everything worked out well. Don't forget to choose the date as your triple points day to get the most out of this purchase.

I went to my local Nordstrom (same one as you) and they found the bag I wanted at Topanga Canyon, but because I had never bought a Chanel at Topanga Canyon, they said they could not sell it to me by phone. They said their new policy is you have to have purchased at the store that has the bag. I just said, "thank you" and contacted a saks SA and got the bag I wanted. So it's not a universal thing. I missed out on the points, but they missed out on a $5k sale.

^ Definitely. Their policies are inconsistent. I think it depends on the SA. I've emailed SAs from the same store & some have told me the "no shipping for classics" rule while others let me order via email/phone. I think you have to keep trying until you get a SA that you can work with.

I also think it depends on the color/popularity/supply of the bag. For example, I don't think they'll ship a red flap because each store only gets a limited number, so the SA at the store would've already reserved the bag & wouldn't want to share the commission with the SA that found it. But I think they're more likely to ship a black/beige flap because it's part of the permanent collection, so sooner/later stock will be replenished.

Wow, I didn't know the random SA I called at SCP was that good. I should've taken down her name. She found my bag at Topanga & had it shipped to me the next day. Maybe it's because I live nearby? I'm just too lazy to drive anywhere & would rather pay for shipping. Customer service at SCP is awesome even though the store doesn't have a Chanel handbags dept!

The SA at SCP was really a nice one (a guy); it was the person at Topanga who was the one who said they didn't ship (which I know is not true, as I'd just helped someone in Canada get a classic bag sent to her from another Nordstrom). I was with my DD and she hates any kind of scene, so I was just polite and thanked him and took my business elsewhere (Dior--spent $5k there, then saks--another $5k). The bag wasn't reserved for anyone, as they were going to sell it to me "IF" I had bought Chanel at Topanga before. I usually buy from Chanel boutiques directly in various states while traveling and SCP, or from NM at Fashion Island or BG while traveling in NY, and haven't driven up to Topanga (it's totally not worth the traffic for me to go there). I really felt the person on the phone at Topanga to the SA at SCP was being a bit condescending about the whole thing, so like I said, I thanked the super nice SA at SCP and took my $$ elsewhere.

Was I by myself, I may have pushed a bit more, and at least have gotten the names of both the super nice SA at SCP and the very unhelpful one at Topanga, but I wasn't so I didn't. I ended up happy, and Norstrom ended up missing sales.

Have you tried BG? I got my wife a GST and Irina was very helpful. I got it shipped and tax free. Tell her jv recommended.

hi jvpurse!

thank you for your reply. how long ago did you place an order with BG? is it tax free in general or tax free because there is no sales tax where you live?

NM, Saks, BG, and Hirsh still ship. Boutiques and Nordstrom do not.
thanks for your info, G&Smommy!

that is very useful to know - if i get desperate, i may just have to forget earning points on my nordstrom card and purchase from another dept store. as you can see, i am not a fan of this recently updated policy  super bummed that i caught the chanel bug so late and only recently decided on finally taking the plunge and making my first chanel purchase!

hi queenofchic,

may i ask which bag you ordered? was it a classic? and how long ago was it that you ordered via phone with a random SA at south coast plaza? there are several nordstrom locations nearby me - just not any with a chanel dept. also, have you previously purchased chanel through nordstrom prior to placing an order at SCP? i'm wondering if they were more lenient b/c you have purchase history with them. i shop at nordstrom a lot and i'm definitely in their system (i believe i'm a level 3 cardholder) - just never purchased chanel through them.

thank you so much for your info!

thank you, tutushopper!

i've read many similar situations on this forum regarding the need to have prior purchase history in order to have a bag sent. i finally spoke to a nordstrom chanel handbags specialist today and was told that they are not allowed to ship classics. i found out that the bag i want is actually seasonal - so i'm in luck! however, i'm on a very long waitlist and was informed that the wait will be several months. if i get desperate enough, i may have to do what you did and just forget about earning points and purchase my bag through NM or saks, which both carry chanel in my area.

in the end, i'm glad you got the bag you wanted and i'm sorry about what happened at topanga... i'm so confused because nordstrom usually excels when it comes to exceptional customer service yet they seem to lack consistency when it comes to chanel. maybe it's a chanel thing?

thank you so much for your reply! i appreciate what all you tpfers have to say

I hope that you will find your seasonal bag soon, and that they don't increase the price of season bags like they do for classics and shoes (so far). Good to hear that Nordstrom has a policy; they should now train all of the SAs to know what it is and stick to it. I do think it's a Chanel thing, such as the boutiques not being able to ship out classics either, no matter if you are in the system or not (although I have a feeling that if you push this and they know your level of purchases, there is a way around this--I'm just not pushy). I have found Nordstrom's customer service to usually be excellent, but not always.

I am quite happy to have found some great SAs at many department stores all over the country, so even if I don't get any points, I get great bags and get to talk with some really friendly and helpful people. I think that's a good trade off.
