Help! Leather pants stretched after just one wear.

Hi ladies, I bought a pair of J Brand leather pants a couple of months ago and wore them for the first time last night. I spent three hours in them, sitting down in a restaurant and when I stood up they felt really slack everywhere. The waist had stretched out and the knees had gone really saggy. They just looked and felt really slack on my legs. I paid £700 for them and that was with 20% off in a promotion. I am so devastated as I've wanted a pair of leather pants for years and had never found a pair that fit me. These had a great fit but I was really reluctant to shell out that amount of money on a pair of pants. I succumbed as they were such a good fit and length. They were actually skin tight in the store and felt a bit too tight but they even stretched out a bit from trying them on in store. I actually sized down from a 25 to a 24 and I'm never a 24 in anything.

Do you think the leather will sort of ping back into shape once it cools down, being away from my body heat, or have these stretched out and got too big for good now? Has anyone else had a similar experience with these pants or any other leather pants? TIA.

I had the same problem with mine and I posted a few weeks ago and no one had any suggestions.. glad you got some responses :smile:

The leather specialist is the only way to go. I wore mine at least 6 times and only now has it started to get loose. I am going to see what they can do.. worst case scenario I may take them in. I didn't spend anything near what you spent but It's just crazy that these brands charge what they charge only to have pants stretch out after one wear...

Oh no. I never thought of this. It sounds obvious but I just thought the tighter the better cos they might stretch but I guess buying them tight will guarantee they stretch. The worse thing is the knees are so sagging now from having them bent when I was sitting down.

Not that all leather is the same but I had a VERY expensive leather couch that got damaged in a move and the backing got stretched when a mover put their fist into the backing. A leather specialist used a machine that looked exactly like a blow dryer. The specialist said warm air causes leather to contract if stretched out. It worked miracles on my couch.... He used very small amount of steam as well. Good luck

Even motorcycle leathers stretch eventually and they are made from outer-skin thick leather. Leggings or skinny pant-cuts are often made of very fine leather, it's true what someone else said the tighter they first were, the more they will stretch proportionally. I know someone who has a very expensive Jitrois, she refuses to sit down in them ever - and they are supposedly stretch-leather anyway LOL.

That is why I bought washed-leather version that made a big thing of the fact they are washable ( I bought them years and years ago from Diverse in London). I can literally put them in the washing machine and they re-shape themselves. Plus they are matte, which I prefer.

i also got a pair of J brand leather pants...i think should be the same pants..i don't think they have that many diff style leather pants.
i also agreed that with leather...it's very tricky. you can't size down too much b/c they'll stretch. the right size is very important b/c the leather wouldn't stretch that much...no reason for the leather to stretch. i got my usual size, the knee are did stretch a little but the butt and everywhere else stay put.
i am so sorry....ask a leather specialist....and if there's no help, spray the leather pants and tumble dry for 10 min intervals and see how they feel.
with expensive leather wear, the leather quality is pretty good and consistent, so usually you don't need to size down.

Thanks for your reply. Have you worn yours much? I actually just tried them on again and they seem to have snapped back into shape - must be because the leather got cold. The only reason I sized down was because they didn't have my usual size. They seemed to stretch out to my normal size just from trying them on in the fitting rooms.

no...i've worn mine 3 times. once got to a lunch date and twice worn to work where i sat all day.. the knee area stretched but other areas were fine.

i got a pair of Leith leather leggings and though the leather was stretched but they did mold into my body....i think J brand leather is much better than leith's...

With your j brands, do they snap back into shape in between wears?

:yes: I totally recommend. So practical and soooo much cheaper in terms of cleaning. Of course it is a different look, most other black skinnies are very dark and shiny, washable leather is a bit less glam but these expensive pieces should last not become unwearable in a few days.

If anyone is looking for the best for 'liquorice legs', try Jitrois. If I was looking for another pair of leathers, and the best of the best I would go for their stretch leather. If people are paying mega-bucks anyway I'd rather go for a pair that lasted for ever.
