Help me decide on winter coat

Will look into Canada Goose as it seems to be a choice for many here. I work in an office, so I usually wear sweaters, blazers, pants, boots, etc, so a warm coat would be great on top to let me walk outside. This North Face one somehow lets the wind through, and it seems to be very thin in the arms and shoulders part, which is where I felt the cold air the most.

Thanks again, I continue my search and will update you once I find perfect coat.

If you are going with Canada Goose, I would get the Camp Down jacket over the parka previously posted. It is higher down fill and it comes to mid-thigh. It is also windproof by design which I think may be the problem that you're having. http://www.backcountry.com/canada-goose-camp-down-hooded-jacket-womens?CMP_ID=PM_VL0316

Also, you will be substantially warmer if you wear an insulating layer on your legs. Even silk long underwear will help, but I like Smartwool merino leggings. http://www.smartwool.com/womens/basic-footless.html

I lived for many years in Burlington, VT where temperatures routinely reached -30.

Here's the longest Canada Goose - mid-calf with 625 fill

Good luck with our search!

Oh wow, thank you so much Jess I think this one is a winner. I don't think any of the stores around here have it to try it on, so I might have to buy online, but, this is exactly what I needed, and based on reviews looks like this is as warm as it gets.

Of course thanks to everyone else, when I buy I will share pics

that canada goose one looks great. i just borrowed the patagonia downtown parka from my SIL for a trip to russia and i was very very impressed. it hit me mid-calf and i'm 5'5. i have had many down coats and this one was so much warmer than any other i've ever worn.

I looked this one up, and its on my list of coats I'm considering. This weekend I will go to stores and see if I can try some of those and try to make a decision.

I am in the Chicago area also and I purchased a long Moncler coat with a fur hood last year, best thing I ever bought for these insane winters

Looked at Moncler the only thing I don't like is that most of the ones I liked had that shiny material, which is not really me, but again, warmth is the most important thing, so if I can't find anything better I will consider it. I plan on braving the cold tomorrow and go shopping in stores as opposed to online .

It's not going to be warm enough. I've already done all the goose down research. I disagree with the higher the numbers. I've tested the LLBean 850 down and it was thin as a paper and I was cold in just 50 degree weather.

I would recommend this over the Patagonia. I returned it because I preferred the "Michelin Man" style but when I tested this coat out, I can tell you it is completely waterproof and windproof and will keep you warm! Order a hat and the down gloves with it! I kept the down gloves!
Link: http://www.landsend.com/pp/DownLong...=IDX_Outerwear-_-OurWarmestCoats&origin=index I found that when a coat is windproof, it really helps to keep you warmer. Get yourself a pair of LaCanadienne boots and you're all set!

Mine is not shiny. I found mine at Bloomingdales but I never would have bought it looking at it online :P
