NEW YORK

Liz Claiborne Inc.'s Juicy Couture clothing division said Tuesday that its store on Fifth Avenue in New York is closed due to a bedbug problem.

"Like other major retailers recently impacted by this issue, we are moving swiftly and aggressively to address the problem," the company said in a statement.

The store is expected to reopen this week.

Three other Juicy Couture stores in Manhattan are open and unaffected.

In July, an Abercrombie & Fitch store and its sibling Hollister store were closed briefly to clean for bedbugs, which have also been found in other New York stores and in apartments, movie theaters and even on the subway.

Ick!! could you imagine having bought something from there in the past week and then reading this?!

Definately could put a damper on a purchase

I wonder how and when this whole recent bedbug issue came to be just recently. There were other major department stores that had it back in september.

Is it worse now than it was in the past or now it was just noticed and pointed out?

Or did someone just pull an Oceans 13 job on these stores?

Which Fifth Ave store? The one near Saks or the one downtown near 17th St?

Bedbugs were found in the two-story retail shopping area of the Juicy Couture store at 650 Fifth Ave.

The store was closed Tuesday and is to reopen before the end of the week, said a spokesman for Juicy Couture, a division of Liz Claiborne Inc. "Eradicating the problem completely is the primary concern," the spokesman said, adding that an exterminating company "will be taking everything out of the store and treating" the merchandise.

Regular return policies are in effect and no consumers have contacted the company about pest problems, the company said. Three other Juicy Couture stores in the city are unaffected. The flagship store is the largest Juicy Couture store in the U.S., with about 15,000 square feet.
