Love this thread, Bunny! This would also be a great place to link to those helpful posts about how to rehab and clean up bags, and the wonderful docride thread that Bebepurse linked to in a different thread yesterday.

Here's the link to a post about "my techniques" for rehabbing bags; but remember that there are other "schools of thought" about approaches for rehabbing a vintage bag:

HI....I just found this thread....and ooohh..I love it...I love rescuing old Coaches..purses in general..and if they are dirty..I clean them up.....my latest purchase is a Coach straw basket....which my mom loves....I had always wanted to have one of those.and I finally found one for $8.00 dls. I added some colorful hangtags I had from another purse...and a flower coin purse..and it looks cute.....I will post pics. I love hunting ..digging and finding those Coach purses that get no love....it's all in the thrill of the hunt.

Oooohhh this is so cute, I love it!!! What a great bag for spring/summer

My latest rescue from Goodwill for 99 cents. Saw it laying on the floor under the purse display. It just needed a good cleaning and conditioninig.

What a steal! And such a cute bag  My local Goodwill and SA always want so much for their Coach bags (and some are SO obviously fake that even I can tell!) even if they aren't in good condition. I keep looking though. Great job and great bag!

Wow, what a great job. May I ask how you went about repairing the edges to the strap? Do you have a process for replacing/repairing the sealant? Also, the bag doesn't look faded at all in the "after" pic, did you do something to restore the color? Amazing job!

Very nice! Love these great finds!

I find myself more and more turning to using classic pieces and accessories in my bags than either the ones that match sometimes... I find them just more useful these days!

I'm looking to join this club if I ever find a suitable bag at Goodwill or one of the consignment stores. Frankly, I was shocked at the shoddy condition of some of the bags at My Sister's Closet, one of the better consignment stores where I live. I saw a gorgeous bag with Legacy lining, but the bag was utterly filthy and it had all sorts of crumbs and debris in it, so at the price they were asking I didn't think it was worth my while to try to clean it up. Had I found it for $5 at Goodwill, I would have snapped it up and got to work on it, but I'm not paying over $100 for a filthy bag just because it has a Coach hangtag!

The edges never had sealant on them - not used back than, most likely. Since the bag was black I just used a permanant Sharpie marker to Dye the edges black.
The leather I just cleaned with Lexol leather cleaner and then I touched up the major scuffed corner edges with Kiwi scuff sponge applicator dye for shoes. Then I conditioned the leather with Blackrocks leather conditioner. The leather conditioner is basically what restored the color. Cleaned up all the brass and the zippers with Brasso first. Black is probably the most forgving and the easiest to restore IMO.
