I've seen this movie so many times in two years. It's really one of, if not, my favorite movies. (Look at icon LOL). I don't find myself disturbed, but I look at it as art and as a kind of human study if you will. I guess if you watch the whole thing, as some of you haven't, you wonder is Alex bad? If so, why? Also, if you watch the whole thing, you question is he a victim? You also have to wonder who deserves rights and who doesn't. Funny enough, the only thing that "freaked" me out was she had no bra, no panties, but had on socks that were huge. I don't know, it made me feel loopy but I see it as a piece of art. Also, Alex and the droogs were bacially on like LSD. So, I think it also made for some of the stuff they did. Maybe I'm just weird, but I like it. I do understand how it could freak out some people or make them upset.

I'm a guy so the rape scene did not hit home to me. But I wince at the rape scenes in Oz.

I think the true genious of Kubrick is the emotions/feelings he tries to relay.

Like the 'Eyes wide shut', this is an expression of the sensation of watching your life slowly go down the tubes and yet feeling of facination/obsession with an 'unknown'.

Clockwork orange tickles that fascination with 'how low are we going to go' sensation. We are made to identify with the central figure, criminal view. Facination to see where we will go...

Interesting I did not know the Shining was Kubric. But, that does figure. Again with suspense we see a situation gone downhill and the fascination of 'how low will we go'.

His genious is that he takes you there first person. You are made to relate to the criminal and there downward (human) spiral into destruction.

Kubric films have always left me with a mixture of sadness and facination.

Did any of you see '2010'? Not sure if Kubric was involved with it as in 2001. But it had some cool sci fi scenes. I think the scene where HAL conversed with David Bowman raised the hairs all the way to the tip of my nose. So freaky, an extra terestial former human conversing with an AI while floating through a hallway blew my fuses..

Then the AI (HAL) said to the former human David Bowman (now an ET) that he was scarred.

Then Bowman said in a calm voice. "Don't worry HAL, you will be where I am now"...

A former human ET assuring the presence of an afterlife to an artificial being that he would not die but be where he was now.

Bowman then instructed HAL to send a message back to earth from thier ship while thier ship was facing eminent death.

HAL knew he was going to die but dutifully repeated the message until the moment of his death when the planet Jupiter blew up.

Brought tears to my eyes...

No, I said 'hit home', meaning I am not a woman so I do not know what women feel, especially when raped. But, I tried to relate to it by reffering to Oz and how that made me feel as rape related.

But, I truley do not recall the rape scene except for an attempted rape where the woman was at some kind of stage or platform and the rape was going to comense when 2 rival gangs started a fight with each other. I believe the woman got away. So, maybe that is why it did not connect with me.

There was the scene with the older woman where main characture waved arround some plastic ball/penus shaped object and I am not sure if she was raped or not.

Although still a good movie, I fell asleep trying to watch it twice. Both times I think it was on late.

I guess Im not very artisitc....I hated it. However I tend to keep things simple...rape is not art, and nor is crime. That is just me. I hated this movie. (hence the post!!!) I would rather shop for handbags!!) OH YEAH. Call me shallow, but if that is artistic ...IM NOT

agreed. the only one i dont care for really is eyes wide shut.
the first time i watched clockwork it took me 3 days to watch. its NOT for everyone and theres so many underlying messages to it.
I can not listen to any of the music that was played in it, especially beethoven. if it comes on a radio or a cd i get flashbacks of the movie, its scarred me but yet i did eventually like the movie, id say its on my top 10 list but i cant watch it very often at all.

I have not seen any of Kubrick's movies except for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Did anyone like that? Maybe I'm a troglodyte, but I didn't get it. I was told that the monolith represents the passage of time, but I wasn't moved. I'm not really into symbolism, I guess.

CWO sounds interesting. People appear to either love it or hate it... Would you guys recommend it?

How about Eyes Wide Shut? My friend saw it and told me it was like a porno, but I've always been curious as to what else it's about.

One of my favorite SK movies is Barry Lyndon with Ryan O'Neal. One thing you see in a lot of SK movies is the use of natural lighting. He used the same lighting techniques in Barry Lyndon that he used in EWS. Beautiful.

Kubrick's movies are varied. He never pigeon-holed himself. He made all kinds of movies, with many thought-provoking topics.

Did you know when it was released, CO had an X rating? Unbelievable. Wow have times changed. The violence is so mild now compared to half the slasher/crime movies out there rated R. But without the violence, the psychological behavioral modification wouldn't have been believable.

Anything that causes one to think, ponder, analyze or have an emotion of any kind cannot be all bad. There are movies that were not meant to be "enjoyed" and I think this is one of them.

Kubriks films are definitely more psychological than physical, so to speak. I actually liked Eyes Wide Shut. I think it is very interesting about what goes on behind closed doors sort of thing and secret societies. I also find it interesting now because of the whole Tom and Nicole being married at the time. I also forgot all about Barry Lyndon. I think that was SK's first movie if I am not mistaken.
