After I ordered my Penrose 2 satchel, but before I received it,
I saw a large Penrose Satchel on ILD for an amazing price.
At that time I had visions of the Penrose 2 having wonderful
leather. When I got the Penrose 2 I was disappointed in the
leather, so I've returned that handbag. I fully expected to
dislike the leather on the large Penrose satchel, and to have to
return it also. It was too late to cancel the order when I tried.
The large Penrose Satchel arrived today and it's not the same
leather, in my opinion. While both the Penrose 2 and Penrose have
thick and relatively structured leathers, the Penrose large satchel
leather is much nicer. It's smooth.
No, the Penrose leather is not like Alto, although
both the Alto and Penrose are thick and structured and matte finish leathers.
And like Alto the Penrose I received has a very small grain.
The Penrose doesn't look like it's embossed. It's not soft, but it's
attractive.
I don't know if the difference between my Penrose and Penrose 2 leather bags
is because they are 'odds and ends' pieces of leather, so the quality isn't
consistent. Or does the naming Penrose vs. Penrose 2 designate a different
collection, and therefore differing leathers? Both bags were from ILD.
I'm attaching pictures of the large Penrose satchel. The color is ASH, which
is a light grey. The trim is British Tan smooth leather (like on many Dooney bags).
The hardware is shiny, there is a wide interior green suede color (like on Florentine),
the bag has whip stitching on the handles, and the Dooney patch inside is leather.
