Prada sandals "dad" style vs Dior dad sandal

Hi- Yes I am late to the trend but I really love the look of the "dad" style sandal! I'm very interested in the Prada slingback sandal ("dad style"). I love the patent leather version in black. Does anyone have these and can give their opinion on the comfort factor? I'm also considering the Dioract sandal also the 2 strap/dad style. Thank you in advance!

The Coat

This is a story inspired by @Mio86 who scored her holy grail bag (Congratulations!). It is about one man’s obsession with a women’s coat.

What would be your dream piece of RTW?

Perhaps it was a piece that got away: reserved and bought before you had a chance; an item you’ve been mulling over, and when you were ready to pull the trigger, it was long gone; or something you didn’t even know you needed until you happened upon it.

On one fateful day I ventured into the Chanel boutique to browse. My advisor presented a few options - emphasis on the few, as 95% of the selections don’t fit me, a 6-foot, 180-lb man.

Then something *sparkly* caught my eye from a distance.

It was a truly magnificent showstopper: a cream patchwork cashmere peacoat, with glittering sequins interwoven throughout the tweed. AND it looked like it could fit me. I felt my heart stop.

I tried to play it cool with my advisor, who at the time didn’t know outerwear was my weakness. To me, Fall-Winter is layering and coats, coats, COATS: my true Achilles' heel!

« That is beautiful. » I pointed out the coat *nonchalantly*.
« Yeah, too bad it’s 15,000 euros. » My advisor raised a brow.
« That’s fine. Whatever. » I shrugged and gave a neutral reaction, but my palms were sweating.

Now, I wasn’t really put off by my advisor’s seemingly condescending reply, which can be interpreted to mean I was not the type of client who could afford a 15K coat. And she was right: my closet doesn’t have anything remotely close to that astronomical price tag.

So I tried on the darn thing, fell in love, told her I’d think about it, and went on my merry way. Thus began an unhealthy obsession over this coat.

Couple weeks later, I went back and the coat wasn’t on the floor anymore. The merchandising team had changed the visuals, and a new collection had been rolled out. The coat, my advisor said, is quietly tucked away in the back, obviously unspoken for thanks to its price tag. As we went through the racks of embroidered tweeds and bedazzled sweaters, she whispered:

« You know, it also comes in black. »

No. NO! Internally I could barely contain my excitement. But on the outside I still tried to stay calm. I had to see it.

She quickly disappeared in the back and pulled out the black peacoat. It was even more impressive than the cream version. The patchwork pattern on the black was more subtle than the cream; in addition to the sparkly sequins, there were tiny glass beads woven into the tweed. The lining was also quilted, something I’ve not seen before in Chanel jackets and coats. As I was trying it on, the handwarmer pockets hit exactly at the waist where it was supposed to hit. The coat was perfection.

A seamstress who was with another client, glanced my way and gasped, « wowwww, that is a nice one on you. » The sales manager who was also present followed: « Isn’t this Lesage spectacular? The buttons are made from the highest quality resin, and the lining uses an old school Chanel technique… »

And suddenly the 17,000 euro price tag made a little more sense. You read that right: it was even more expensive than the cream coat. Of course it was Lesage. It had to be. In my size too.

My advisor then explained that the coats were special orders for VIP clients, who didn’t end up taking them mostly likely due to the oversized, boxy cut. However, it works perfectly for a dude with a rather brawny frame! She also pulled out the cream version, and we compared the two coats side by side. « Get both. » the sales manager joked. I chuckled nervously alongside everyone, then said I’ll think about it.

And long and hard I did think. I just couldn’t stop lusting over the coat. Every time I thought, I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna buy the darn thing. Every time the prohibitive cost pulled me back to reality.

Months went by, my advisor messaged me. « Here’s your chance. It’s on sale! » Even after the reduction, the coat was over 10K euros. Fighting the urge - luckily I was out of the country at the time - I politely declined for a second time.

Fast forward to this summer, while shopping in a consignment shop with the Mrs., I spotted the exact coat hidden in a rack of preloved Chanel RTW. It was a couple sizes smaller than the one I had tried on at the boutique, but it still fit! Besides minor wears and pilling of the cashmere, it was in great condition, and the consignment shop was asking for 6,300 euros. While tempted, I held back but at this point a seed was planted in my head. This was my chance.

So I became a stalker: every week I would check the consignment shop’s website, and I was betting on an end-of- season markdown. It was the only way I could justify buying the coat. Couple of weeks after I first visited the shop, I finally saw a 20% off on the website; a month later, it was 30% off. Then before I knew it, the coat was marked as sold on the website. As disappointed as I was, I pat myself in the back for having the restrain and discipline to be financially responsible. It just wasn’t meant to be. And now it was just a distant memory.

Lo and behold, two days after « sold », the coat was relisted for its original consignment price. Then it sat there on the site for months, one markdown after another, until it was reduced to about 2,000 euros.

It is now with my tailor who is taking out the shoulder pads and lengthening the sleeves for me. I finally understood what many members in the Chanel threads refer to as the Chanel Happy Feeling.

It was love, at first sight.

Jackets on ilovedooney.com

Perusing the site this morning and came across four jackets. The description is “Coats Women’s Domenico Quilted Jacket” and “Coats Women’s Dominico Cotton Jacket” and “Coats Women’s Duttle Microfiber Jacket”. The original prices range from $350 to $650 with sale prices between $262.50 and $487.50. Does anyone know about this brand? Of course, there are no pictures. Really upset sometimes when ILD has great prices on items, like the Pebble Grain Hobo for $129 but no picture or description. I am not a risk taker. Although there was a Florentine Edge Satchel I would have gambled on. It was labeled Florentine Medium Satchel with two recent reviewers stating they took a chance and liked the bag and noted the white edges. There was not a color I liked so I passed but the satchel was half price.

Opinions on DSQUARED2?

I used to be really into them, but I feel recently they went a bit downhill. I bought one of their caps, with the icon logo, and it feels like a 10 dollar cap off high street. Their designs are also very simple and tacky imo with huge logos everywhere. It's not what I expect from a luxury brand. I haven't tried their denim which is supposed to be top tier though.

What's your perception of the brand?

Made to feel guilty

I have been out of the workforce since 2018. I am in school hoping to start a new career. About one to two years ago I went a little shopping crazy and bought all the Patricia Nash Brailes Satchels. I had about 8 of them and I decluttered down to 5. These handbags are pretty large. They were sitting pretty on my shelf for awhile until I took it out shopping and it felt like I was lugging around a piece of luggage in the grocery store. I would say they are the size of a small briefcase. My dad says keep them, briefcases are always fashionable. Because he said that I feel guilty about wanting to declutter them. Plus, everyone tells me to keep them. At the same time I have been out of the workforce since 2018. I do not know when or if at all I will return. Also when I did work I carried a tote with me. I am not concerned about money or resell value. To me they are very beautiful. What are your thoughts.

Hermes Seasonal Colors

Hi all,

I am trying to understand more about Hermes’ approach to leather colors.

From what I have read, there are new seasonal colors that appear and other colors that are used over and over every season (the classics- etoupe gold noir etc)

My reason for asking- top of my wishlist bag is a 5P mini Kelly. When I did research, from my understanding 5P is a color that often comes back. However, I looked online and every single 5P mini Kelly from a reseller was from 2021.

When I asked my SA, she said “that combo is long gone. We can do a pink this fall but we have to see the pinks available”. Personally I don’t love mauve pale nor the fuschia pink I feel like I have seen a lot lately.

To sum it up, my general questions are:

1. Are there some colors that appear every season but not necessarily in the same bag sizes as before? For example, is it that 5P is still being produced just not for mk (in another form someone said 5P has been reoccurring since it was introduced)?

2. Has anyone had a situation where miraculously a bag in a color from previous season was available at a store?

3. Is this a situation where based on the colors of the season I should maybe wait for 2024 to see what other colors are available?

TYIA! I am so appreciate of this community and the knowledge people have to share. You have all played a role in me falling in love with this brand.

Doja Cat

Surprised we don’t have a Doja thread! I know she’s edgelording right now  but I’ve been loving her music since 2019. Planet Her was a fantastic album. Not sure how I’m feeling about what’s next but we’ll see.

Kicking off the thread with this…

5 motif bracelet everyday wear?

Hi everyone!
I recently purchased my first VCA 5 motif bracelet, I already own MOP necklace and I take this off every night after I’ve worn it however I’m wondering with the bracelet do you all take yours off everyday? Or do you keep yours on and don’t take it off. I currently wear a Cartier Love and JUC that I never take off so wondering if the same can be done with my VCA (onyx)

Petit Louis Earrings crystal missing (9 months ownership) LV policy update, no clear answer

So the crystal went missing on my Kuala Lumpur holiday so after i whatsapp my SA in singapore since i'm from there and bought it there, my SA tells me to go down to any LV stores in KL to ask them to check on the earring since they also have my records. So after reaching there they told me if the crystal is missing they cannot do anything about it. So i'm assuming when you bought something from LV you are expected to check on it every few minutes, it's not on them if their workmanship is bad. Please remember i only wear the earring on the weekend and to me its still look new.

I fully expect them to inspect the earring and see the condition of the earring and see if the jewelry is tampered or not well cared of or if its their fault but none of that in KL LV starhill. Are there a pandemic of LV crystals hoarders that i'm not aware off that they cannot repair it for me if they check it and they just fall off?

The LV in KL and SG don't really gave me an answer that say come down to any LV stores and we check it for you and tell you what is the problem with the earring like really check it. Will post the pic of the earring if i get some comment about other people with similar problems or am i that special?

Do LV salespeople understand what law means?

I called local store and LV customer service, they all claim that they don’t participate Massachusetts tax-free weekend. One lady over Boston Saks even said that we are luxury brands, you know, we don’t participate that. I ask her when you collect tax, are you going to keep it as an additional profit for LV? Given that Massachusetts will not take it. Do they understand that the tax-free weekend is a state law, not a sale event. So nothing to do with whether you are luxury or not. From some point, this brand has many ugly designs and the SA are rude and arrogant. As a fan who has had more than 30 LVs, I think that I am done with this brand.

New horsebit Chain AW24

Just got. I was all excited about these! They are certainly well made, impressively so for Gucci. But you guys oh my gosh. Barely WOC sized & for $3500? Satin lining as well, not leather. Insane. To me. Medium size might be better/ more practical but it’s more oblong/ stranger shape IMO. This “small” isn’t small. It’s super mini…

Zeko’s Latest Blogpost on Japanese Vintage Chanel Market - Thoughts?

I came across this blog post by Zeko Authentication yesterday:

https://zekosauthentication.com/blo...recy-of-japan-s-chanel-vintage-market-1000027

I felt uneasy after reading it because I do have two vintage Chanel I got 3-4 years ago, one from Amore and one from Qoo (both are famous and big). Looks like at least one of the suspects Zeko was talking about is Amore…

I did get both bags authenticated. The camera bag I got from Qoo was authenticated by Etinceler, and the cross body half moon flap from Amore was authenticated by Authenticate4U.

Should I be worried as now I’m like do I also need Zeko to do a second authentication?

Hi all,

I'm planning to buy a bracelet - preferably a bangle style hence the Perlee styles.
I also like the Guilloche + pave alternating style (best of both worlds lol) but I already have a MOP 5 motif I'll likely choose the bangle style.
I've seen the sweet clover bracelet isn't exactly very popular on TPF but after a few videos on Youtube, I do find it very cute.
I also like the CCC for it's simplicity though I am resisting not to get FJ from Chanel.
I'll not be wearing them to sleep. I generally remove all jewelleries except earrings for comfort reasons.
Appreciate if you have the bracelets - can tell me the pros and cons about them.
Additionally, I'm also considering Tiffany T bangle which I've posted in the Tiffany thread.
Apologies if there are similar threads like this.

Which Tiffany T bangle?

Hi all,

I've decided to buy a hard bangle this year and narrowed down to a few.
2 from Tiffany, 2 from VCA and 1 from Chanel.
Since this is the Tiffany sub forum I will only ask for views for the Tiffany ones.
I tried doing some research but there weren't much info, especially the slimmer version.
I haven't tried any of them on yet but I will slowly go to the store/s the next few weeks to see.
Anyone owns any of them? Any pros and cons to share?

Thanks in advance!
