Hey, did any of you guys read this new piece at Huff Po - "YSL Brand Overhaul To Increase Value of Vintage Pieces' - it leads to a Fashionista.com article discussing the upcoming logo change.

After reading the piece, I wonder if the overhaul will gain YSL some more attention from the masses. It would be great for my YSL pieces to increase in value (I must confess, there is one piece I'd be willing to do away with for the right price), but, the thought of everyone knowing and carrying YSL would be...interesting.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Just did some more searching and here's a good article at Fashionista - Update: Yves Saint Laurent Name Change Confirmed

*off to start picking up some more vintage items* well, maybe not.

I personally do not like the idea of changing such an iconic logo without Yves being here to approve it...however, I am looking forward for all Tom Ford's and Pillati's bags I own to become vintage rare bags. I do not like recognizable logos nor to scream money into someone's face, but I like "secret codes" for ony those who understand to recognize, for the rest of the people in my surrounding, I would like them to see rather quality and style coming out of the bag than wealth and money. I can not forget the face of a SA in a local leather coats store when he saw my 2007 Miu Miu buffalo satchel with wooden frame, he was screaming around and no one understood why, since that day (needless to say that he sold to me perfect leather coat :) he waves to me when I see him on the street (happened few times already in 3 years :)

I know it will be the same with tricolor Muse II or Downtown, or Tom Ford's red Mombasa :))

Gorls on the other thread devoted to this question
Yves Saint Laurent changing to Saint Laurent Paris?!?!

are in fear of buying Y logo on bags for now, like easy or cabas...I would go for it to snitch what is left of the YSL legacy...unless Slimane has a real surprize which would knock me off my feet

I know I am happy with bags I already have and am not thinking about selling them, because I did not buy investment pieces but beautiful bags, and also can not wait for creative novelty in YSL HOWEVER seing a disaster which happened to Miu Miu and Mulberry, I am very sceptical here too. Not a disaster in terms of their profit, but in terms of quality and beauty of their bags (horror on both fields).

Hmm, you make some very good points...I'm not familiar with what happened to Miu Miu and Mulberry but the thought that YSL quality may go down the drain is rather alarming. Like you, I love that only those 'in the know' recognize my YSL pieces. Call me shallow, but, I feel special about it.

I've always known that I would add certain YSL pieces to my collection someday (chyc cabas, roady and maybe a muse for sentimental sake) but now I wonder if I should pull the trigger now or just wait it out. *sigh*

Thanks for the link to the other related thread. I'm going to check it out and chime in.

*Dear moderator, if this little thread is redundant, given that it appears there is another similar thread, please feel free to remove it.

Seems the name change is only for ready-to-wear, which I don't believe includes accessories, but am not positive. http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2012/...y-to-wear.html

Hmm, thanks for the update. To be honest, the whole thing has become underwhelming in addition to confusing. Yes, this 'spectacle' has garnered YSL some attention but the attention it needs now is more great pieces that compel us all to continue to add YSL (or whatever it wants to call itself) to our collections.

If tPF is anything to go by (and I'll leave it to others to argue either way), not enough people care about this name change. YSL is not as exciting to many as say Celine (lets not even mention the big 3 on tPF, alright, I will - LV, Chanel and Hermes).

Anyway, I hope the tactic works for them and breathes some fresh air into the brand.
