Hi everyone,
I am thinking of getting my first YSL (I am normally a Bal girl) and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/opinions on the Large vs Medium Downtown. I am interested more in the look of the bag than the practicality of a larger vs smaller bag (since I find both of them large enough for an everyday).
I am also posting a pic of Kate Moss with her ostrich Downtown (I love the size on her and we are the same height). Does anyone know if Kate's Downtown is the Med. or Lg?

I think her bag maybe a medium. I am 5'10 and I have the medium...I love large bags but I did not like the large Downtown, it was too long and not wide enough.

It looks like a medium. But be careful, there is a TALL large, which is the tall elongated one, and then a large which has more of the fan shape. I didn't know that until an SA told me.

I have a medium and that is how mine looks on me when full.

I think the large is the only tall one.... and Melissa Ann is right, it is not as cute.

If you can handle a big bag, I definitely vote for the LARGE. I think the bag looks so much better (and more distinctive!) in large, which is the longer, north-south version, rather than the medium, which is a wider, shorter, east-west version.

Someone here is fond of saying that the difference between the two is only about 3" inches in height. The large was the original, and what was worn on the YSL runway, if that matters to you.

You can see a lot more pics of celebs carrying the bag in our ref thread above. Can you go somewhere to try on both Downtowns? I'd highly recommend that.

I just bought the medium one and do prefer that size. I find the large one too long.

go in the store and try them both. Hold them down at your side like a satchel and make sure it doesn't touch the ground or your feet. That is really annoying on the large one for me.

I totally agree with all of this! I love my Large, I think it's the more unique of the two sizes and is the original concept of the bag, but I also realize it's a large bag and there's a market for the smaller size. It's essentially the same way I feel about the Oversize Muse. I definitely think it's worth trying both sizes on in person to see what works best.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I love big bags, so I am not worried that it would be too big. I guess my only misgiving is that the shape is too long and once it breaks in and gets slouchier, it will REALLY look long.

In the 2 pics, Kate's is the Medium, right? and the model's is the Large?
