Question What's stronger Patent or Regular leather?

So those of you that have patent and regular ysl bags or items - which holds up better?

Mmmm, I think the textured patent. Its really really durable and strong.

Not that I've had problems with my regular-leather YSLs. (As I noted in another thread, my buffalo Muse did get very soft and distressed-looking quickly, but that's cool w/ me!)

For sheer durability, the textured patent is hard to beat. The smooth or lambskin patents will scratch more easily. But I've not had any problems with my calf or goatskin bags, either, so you really can't go wrong.

Patent is coated with a membrane which protects the calf or goat leather. It is less susceptable to scratches and dirt. However, calf leather will grow prettier and softer over time. Personally , I love calf skin more.

I love the textured patent! It's been through a torrential downpour and hot AZ sun and it's still going strong!

So is smooth patent still durable too? Shazam, I know you said it's more prone to scratches than the textured but does it still stand up to everyday wear?

I'm amazed by the resilience of my patent Muse bag. It has been rained on, and I just dried it off, and it was perfect. Someone tossed it on the ground at a backyard party, (I know, ) and it was unharmed. I carry this bag all the time, because it's so practical and durable.

love my embossed croc patents from ysl...i've worn it every day to work, on the subway, etc., and it still holds up beautifully.

I've used my patent Catwalk as an everyday bag with no regrets. It's great in the rain, and fingerprints and smudges can be easily wiped down (and aren't as noticeable with the embossed croc pattern to begin with). It does scratch quite a bit, so in that respect it's about how well you can tolerate them. They don't bother me personally because on a black bag, you really have to be close and looking for them to see them (keeping the bag shiny helps, too). It's not something anyone will spot while you're walking down the street with the bag. But if any imperfections will ruin a bag for you or make you not want to carry it, then it could be a problem.

I like having a smooth patent piece in my collection, though, it looks different than the textured patent, is very lightweight (due to it being lambskin) and the glossiness can give it a dressier look, depending on the outfit. Since it is a glossy and thinner patent though, the lamb is more delicate and is just not going to be as durable as the calf textured patent.

Interesting....thanks shazam. There's a bag I'm thinking about getting in the future (non-ysl) and I'm trying to figure out if it's calf or lamb. Seems to be pretty durable from just feeling it though.
