Unhappy Possible problems with the nubuck besace
I think my besace got scratched when I was on the subway today. Today is the third time I took it out and I don't remember seeing the scratch before although it could have been there since that area was covered by the flap of the bag. Has anyone else felt like the nubuck gets scratched pretty easily? It's as if a bit of the upper layer got peeled off. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

I am not sure anymore, it might have been there from before because the flap covered that part! But I am definitely going to be MORE careful from now on. My poor besace

Funny, I was in NM today, and my so stylish SA told me that my besace is beautiful and will look even better once it starts getting worn in and scratched a little.

I thought of your story about your bag.

lol, well its not made of leather that it would get softer or smoother with use. I think it did get a bit more slouch to it since i started using it, but i really don't know how scratches could make a bag any better.

Oh no!! Poor besace! I'm actually in communication with NYC YSL to get a besace!

Hm.. I don't know what to say!

I have the nubuck sky anthracite muse II and it's actually done pretty well with weathering. I've scratched it with sharp jewellery and other random sharp objects and after kind of rubbing it a little, the scratch seems to fade. Maybe your scratch could be deeper??

I also dropped some sticky stuff onto it while out one night, but two days later, the sticky stuff dried and you can't tell where it went!?

I hope you can get it fixed!

I haven't used my besace yet so I couldn't say how it wears. Have you tried rubbing out the scratch with a suede brush?

Maybe I'm just not careful, but scratches generally don't bother me with any of my bags. I see it as patina or character! Water or oil stains would bother me though, which is why I'm treating mine with suede/nubuck protector tonight. Good luck!

its not like scratching with your nail or a sharp object, it actually seems as though a portion was taken off! thankfully since the bag is a dark colour, you can't really see it but had it been lighter, it would not have been pleasant.

oh no! that sounds awful! I guess the only consolation is that it's covered by the flap. Actually I just discovered that there's a deep cut on part of the piping on my turquoise besace. Fortunately it's really small, but still annoys me. Not sure if it was me or if it arrived that way tho. Maybe take your besace to a leather specialist and see what they think can be done?

Oh, I'm sorry about the scratch on your besace, afterimage. I have two nubuck bags and haven't had any problems just rubbing out a superficial scratch. I even rubbed out black pen on my almond downtown, and it went away in an instant.

I do have to say that the nubuck does change in texture after a couple wears. Especially under the shoulder strap; basically, wherever the skin rubs against another surface. The nubuck tends to become matted and shiny, almost reverting back to leather. It's actually a really neat effect of constant wear. I should take a picture to show you what I mean.

chinsumo, thanks so much for chiming in! I think you've had the turquoise besace the longest and probably used it a lot too (I follow your blog ).
That sounds really interesting indeed! If you have time, do post some pictures.

lol aerye, I will post some pictures in a few hours. I guess we are more picky than people in general because I remember asking Danielle, "is it perfect? is it perfect?" lol and she kept saying "it is in good condition" and it annoyed me so much that she wouldn't say it was perfect. I know, I am weird.
