My First YSL in Pics -- Is it a Keeper?

FYI, I just picked up a camel colored medium downtown at NMLC, with my 25% off coupon, it was around $830. It's smooth leather and suede lined. The original cost was $1795. You might want to try a few Last Calls. I did call the YSL outlets and if I remember correctly, all they had were the large downtowns in deerskin -- maybe a gold medium, however, she did tell me they would be getting new inventory real soon.

wow -- $830! that's fantastic! Unfortunately, we don't have a NM Last Call anywhere near Chicago, so I'd have to make call after call looking for one -- as for the outlets, our stores NEVER get anything good. I've gotten lucky finding a couple of Chloes from the Rack (which I didn't end up buying), but other than that, they rarely have anything "good" -- I've NEVER seen YSL bags there -- they have the NQC events a few times a year, but I can't get there at 8 in the morning in order to take advantage of it (the last 2 times they had an NQC event, the bags sold out in less than 10 minutes!).

Based on my experience with MJ bags it seems like our outlet stores rarely get the "good stuff" -- I can't tell you how many times I've called Off Saks or the Rack looking for an MJ or Chloe only to be told that they don't have any -- when they do, they're usually styles that aren't very popular (those nylon MJ totes sat at our Rack for more than 6 months!!)

I really think my only hope of finding a leather version for anywhere near this price is to get lucky enough to find a customer return -- that's how I got this one. And as I mentioned previously, MJ is my first love and there are so many bags from this fall/winter season that I want -- if it came down to choosing between a YSL leather Downtown or an MJ bag, I'd likely choose the MJ -- that's why I took advantage of this when I had the chance. I mean, if I was lucky enough to find a leather Downtown for $600-700, I'd probably grab it, but I dont see that happening anytime soon -- this might be a good choice to "satisfy" me until that time --

p.s where are there YSL Outlets?

^^Hey, you got a steal on that downtown, I don't blame you for grabbing that one - even if you decide not to carry it in the winter, it will be a dynamite spring/summer bag.

The closest NMLC to me is an hour away. I just randomly called to see if they had any YSL bags, I had them hold 3 (the DT, a capri hobo, and a large tote)--and drove over (Orlando) - I had to go for another errand anyway, so I had an opportunity to go check them out. The SA said she had a lot of people ask about the DT, luckily, I had it on hold. I've found some great bags at the NMLC, Off 5th, etc., but it does take a few phone calls, and then you have to have them describe the bag over the phone, which can sometimes be challenging.

The outlets are at Cabazon (CA) 951-922-8026 and Woodbury (NY) 845-928-2169.

The outlet in Palm Springs has the Deerskin Downtown (all leather lined in suede and w/out pockets) for sale for $749 in white, tan, brown, and black. They are supposed to have a Labor Day Sale and during their 4th of July sale they were an extra 30% off. So I would call them...my friend wanted one and she called today and they still have them.

I'll have to give them a call and see what they have -- honestly, I like the front pocket. It's one of the things I REALLY like about this bag -- how it zips on the sides making it expandable -- I'm sure the no-pocket versions are just as lovely (esp if they're lined with suede!!), but I think I'd miss that pocket -- I'll have to look up some pics of the Downtown w/o the pocket to see how it looks.
