PARIS - A longtime friend and associate of Yves Saint Laurent says the famed couturier has died at his Paris home at the age of 71.
ADVERTISEMENT

Pierre Berge says that Saint Laurent died Sunday evening following a long illness. He did not give details.
The innovative designer was an institution for decades in the world of high fashion.
He was widely considered the last of a generation that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion capital of the world.

He was (is) my fashion icon. I grew up with his outfits, and his style is my style. I hope his house will continue to be true to his legacy. :(

Kind of feels like the end of the world.

I cannot believe it, he was able to touch people with his fashion and he knew how to hold a spot in ones mind when one thinks about fashion.
He was one of the only ones left like Chanel & Dior.I thought his brand never changed even when fashion changed he remained a classic but in a fabulous way.

May he rest in peace and I will cherish whatever i may own of YSL.

For the Montreal reader or whoever reads this,at the Musee des Beaux Arts in downtown Montreal,there is an exibition about YSL with drawings from him and pieces he design.It is going to be on till September.

Wow 71- that's way too young to loose someone so great!!!

The comment about him being in Chanel and Dior's generation though is just stupid- he would've been born at least 40 years apart from either of those designers. If anything he's in Karl Lagerfeld's generation.
