Unhappy I'm not going to sulk! Life goes on
Just want to mention I notice my RG got chicken pox today. I brought it to my mother's apartment at the beach and when I put my bag on me I noticed it had what looked like either grease stains or water stains. I Am not very happy to see that kinda stuff on a thousand dollar range bag! I never experienced that in any of my mid range handbags so I'm just a bit peturbed!

Being the kinda person that doesn't let things like this get to me, I'm gonna just ignore it or rub the stains with a jewelry cloth but I wanted to mention it nevertheless.

That's awful! Can you use Lexol leather cleaner or send your bag to the spa...do you think it's fixable?

Unfortunately, I have been under so much stress lately (health issues and major expenses with my teenager) that I'm not in the state of mind to care about the little things. I guess what's pissing me off is that it happened. It makes me wonder if the leathers YSL uses are porous? I've never experienced this kinda thing with any of my other less expensive bags. Then again, all the rest of my bags are made from calf leather and not goatskin. Maybe that's the difference.

I just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" in being careful although I don't know what happened. I put the bag down on my mother's chair like I've done millions of times! Weird! - I'm not gonna sweat it though. I'm a little disappointed but not going to let it get to me. When I feel better I will look into Lexol and other leather cleaners. Thanks!

Sorry this happened! Anything that happens to an expensive bag is disappointing to say the least, but you have the right attitude.

Hope the leather cleaner fixes the problem.

Thanks so much Antonia and SSC0619! I love the people in TPF! We all share the same interest - bags! Hopefully, the stains will disappear in time or when I get the energy to do something about them. Thanks!

I have a Marni goatskin bag that got watermarks on it, I have no idea how. I took it to a shoe repair store that cleans leather and they got it to look better. They suggested spraying every couple of months with waterproofing spray. Maybe it's the goatskin leather, but I felt how you do, disappointed that such a $$ bag could be so vulnerable.

Anyhow, sounds like you have a healthy perspective on things, so now you get healthy and take care of yourself. Life's stresses can really get to you sometimes, which makes this bag obsession such a great outlet.

Be careful before you use Lexol. I used to work in a store that sold shoes also and they only used it as a last resort because it can sometimes strip the color/finish. I would probably send it to LMB when you feel like dealing with it. Hope all turns out well soon.

if it's grease, put some cornstarch on the marks and leave it for a long time. it probably won't lift the stain entirely at this point but will make it less noticeable at least.

that is, if you decide to care, otherwise I like your relaxed attitude about it!!

Thanks everyone! I was taught my whole life by my parents, that if something bad has to happen, let it happen to my possessions and not me or my family. That has stayed with me. While I am disappointed this has happened it really isn't that noticeable so I think I will take mundodabolsa's advice and place a drop of cornstarch on the stains and see what happens. I must add the stains appear small and only in certain places. (I still can't figure out what happened.)

Alisonanna, it's almost like you know me!! My mouth dropped open when you said life stresses can make my bag obsession an outlet! No one else seems to understand! They think I'm nuts! But I just love admiring gorgeous handbags and, like you said, it takes me away for a while from what saddens me.

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes and, like I said, I'm glad it's just a bag in the end. A very expensive bag, I might add, but the bag should suffer and none of us people!

BgaHolic, we were all so happy when you got it....
I share your and Alisonanna's vue and perspetive. These purses of ours are sometimes the only things that we really feel we can control, and something like this can be a pain, but also a great challenge to find the cure (I have plenty of problems at home and at work, must work harder than ever in my life, and I always have tPF window open in case I run into too overwhelming problem on the other side, then turn tPF to see if my bag is authenticated...or someone found a good cleaner.....luckily these girls here have so much experience with everything, that you will find it within these threads..

I had similar stains on my light turqoise hobo - small drops from the tree above my car - going in and out of car I gor so many those small dots...wondered for months about them and figured that my windshield is always full of some liquid drops...I used cleaning lotion from "lovingmybags", and it helped them fade and blend in

Cosmo mentioned Apple (not cleaning but moisterizing lotion) that does wonders on her Muse when she has any surface problems...not sure about stains

I wil keep you posted if I find something else

cheers, Vesna

Well said Vesna!

It sounds like it may be water stains and I know some other ladies here have had problems with water stains that wouldn't dry up and go away.

Need Help with a water stain in my MUSE!!

I haven't had any problem with my Muse II yet but I think quite a few here have had the water stains problem so I have stocked up on apple guard products... the water/stain repellant and the leather conditioner/moisturizer is said to help the water stains blend in.

I also see that you mentioned that it might be grease... if that's the case though I think that grease would stain any bag whether it was $20 or $2000.

Hope it works out!

I'm so sorry that this happened to your RG.

Try Apple leather conditioner to remove the spots. I've used it on my muse and downtowns without any problems. The conditioner isn't as harsh as the cleaner.
