Thumbs up I tried on the Black Tribute bag but...
I tried on the black tribute bag, which btw is being discontinued in black crock, and I couldn't make up my mind! It is dirt cheap! $599 @ YSL, NYC. However, when I put it on it felt like I was carrying an art portfolio over my shoulder. The sales people liked it, but it just didn't feel right or maybe, I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a suede lining and felt kinda plasticy. I wanted to buy it because of its price and practicality, jeans, etc. but I passed. So... if anyone is interested, I figured I'd give a heads up!

The large Tribute in the black croc quilted patent is currently selling for $999. The medium is selling for $899. I think the $599 price was a typo or perhaps the OP misheard, unless it was a different version of the bag that she tried on (I'm not sure what the pricing is for plain patent).

I tried on the large black crock Tribute. It is being discontinued. Just an FYI, on line it is selling for a couple hundred more. I like the way the bag looks on others, but for some reason can't get used to carrying it even though it is soooo light weight and can put a laptop in it!

^It's the same price online as in the stores. I contacted both of the NYC locations to be sure since $599 would be a fantastic deal and they both confirmed the large is still $999. Perhaps your SA was just misinformed on the pricing.

It's a great bag, I love how lightweight it is and even though it's large and roomy, the slim profile makes it easy to wear in crowded situations. I can see where it might feel too big and flat for some, though, especially if you're petite. The medium looks totally different, too, so I know many have wished there was a size in between.

Exactly! The medium is too small and the large, I just am not sure enough but I could have sworn she told me it was on sale for $600!

I feel better! I looked @ my receipt for the Rive Gauche, which I had bought on sale, and I have a sneaky feeling, was discontinued as well, and I bought the bag very early June. I think @ that time all the bags were reduced. I was deciding @ that time between the tribute, which I thought was too trendy or the Muse two, which I loved (in plain black leather for $999) or the Rive Gauche, which I ended up taking. I am still pondering over the tribute. I don't know why since I love the Muse two more!

What can I say? I'm bag obsessed!

bgaholic - this is a bit off topic, but how do you like the double handles on the rive gauche. i'm used to rolled handles (like the easy), so i'm not sure if i would like the handles not rolled... also have you seen/felt the ombre version irl?? i'm not sure if it's going to be soft like the regular one...

my friend is in europe and she said she'll buy one for me if i'd like.. it's on sale for 850 euros (approx. $1200). i'm not sure what the original price was, but she thought it was a good deal... TIA!

I'm fine with the handles except I wish they were an inch longer so it would sit more comfortably on my shoulder. I do not wear it as a messenger bag. I don't feel comfortable wearing bags that way. As far as as the ombre version, I don't think I saw that. Could you give a little more details? I think $1500 is the price for the plain leather medium size, which I got in chocolate. I think the large runs over $1700. I am wearing mine practically every day. I mean I switch off because I am a bagaholic and loooove bags but I do wear it a lot. I am also getting a lot of compliments on it. It is such a classy looking bag! I hope I helped!

thank you so much for the reply! it's tough because my friend is not into designer bags... so i find it hard to "measure our expectations" if you know what i mean. she said that the leather is soft... and i don't know if her standard is the same with tPFers' standards... bless her heart for offering to bring back some sale bags for me !

she told me that the dimension is approx 14x12x4... is that the medium? when i hear ombre... i automatically think about those prada ombres (gradient color)... but she says that the color is not all that gradient... just a bit darker in corners and lighter in the middle...

ahhh i wish she could take a high quality pic and send it my way... she sent me a pic through blackberry messenger. dumb me, i closed out of the chat and now i don't have it anymore. maybe it was the quality of the picture, but i truly couldn't see any gradient color in there... looked like a tan patent leather to me... i'm not sure if i should get it or not. i know i really like the shape of the bag.. looks very elegant, like you said.

thanks again! your info on the double handles really helped!!!
