I have been eyeing both of these bags for a while...and here is the deal:
I purchased the tribute in Black Croc Patent Large at Saks Friends and Family...then my SA at Nordstrom's called and said there was a return for a black patent croc embossed Downtown...either bag would cost me around $1100 or so....the Tribute is originally $1595, and the Downtown is $1895... So...which one would you pick?? Or get them both (ohmygosh...did I just say that)??? They are both beautiful to me and I can't decide!! I think I like the way the tribute hangs better on me, but the Downtown is just so practical and smooshier..... Help!! |

Get both! but ok, if you had to make a choice I'd vote for the downtown. more practical and you still get the croc look.

I prefer the look of downtown. So i would choose the with the croc embrossed.

The downtown is a larger bag with easy access to the inside. the tribute is a bit more narrow when searching for items. So it depends on your lifestyle?

If you like them equally, I would go for the one that's a better deal or less likely to be found on sale. To me, this is definitely the downtown.

I just bought a small shimmery blue tribute yesterday- i love it! my first YSL! it was basically an impulse buy, but I have been looking for something fun to wear with my trench and leather bomber, so..... the small size is also an option if you don't want or need to carry a heavy bag. happy shopping :) oops- i think i actually bought the small downtown!

I have both the Downtown and Tribute totes. Here's my take on them...
Downtown (leather version) -- It's probably my favorite bag in my collection. Definite workhorse and stylish too. It has gotten really soft over time -- it sort of flops over now. The only downside I still struggle with is the way it lays against your body when you carry it, that it is not completely flat. It is a big bag, but it's one of the only ones I have that I can carry everything I need. Tribute (large leather version) -- This is also a great work bag. It's large, and the leather is divine. I love that it sits flat against the body, and that it is incredibly streamlined. I still struggle a bit with the straps of the bag -- they are stiff and don't always sit on my shoulders comfortably. I think either way, you'll end up with a really lovely bag. I think it all depends on what you want to use the bag for. If you're more casual, I would go with the Tribute. I think if you want something that can be used for both, I would get the Downtown since it holds more. Good luck! |

I agree with your take on the Downtown and the Tribute.
Since I run around the city a lot, I prefer the Tribute. The flatness makes it so versatile and it is my absolute favorite shape. |
