Hi I am new to this side of the forum but I was interested in getting some opinions I want to get a YSL small (not mini) downtown and the medium or large muse bag. I have three questions. First I want one in brown and one in black, but I can’t decide which should be which. I would appreciate some opinions.
Secondly I am 21 and will be starting my second degree, so I am a student rather then a career girl at the moment; and my mum says that the muse bag is a little mature for me. I have also felt like this for a long time despite liking the bag. But at my last Uni I did see some girls carrying it so it can’t be that mature. I think that it is a good investment and thought I could make it moor me with some colourful yet not to over the top hippy bag charms. Also what about the muse 2 Is that a very mature bag? What do you ladies think? |

Go for the downtown without a shadow of a doubt! I feel that that bag is one of those all occasions bag. I own all three bags, downtown, muse and muse II and the downtown is very age appropriate for all ages as well as very carriable. The muse is a beautiful bag, but a more refined/mature looking bag. The muse II is versatile, and can suit all age groups but is a pain to get in and out of, especially for uni use!! Get the downtown!! Medium would be best and black or brown would look good, I've got mine in pebble grey

I'd say downtown also...can't go wrong w/ black. The black against the gold hardware is stunning and so chic. Like the pp said, it's very versatile. The Muse is an elegant more mature bag but I'll think you'll be more mileage out of the more unstructured Downtown.
I have a Muse 2 and love it. It's funky and elegant. BUT...definitely not something I would recommend for a student lugging around books and walking a lot. |

Downtown, hands down. I'm 28 and I have the large muse, medium downtown, and the medium tribute tote... all in black.
Muse is a more structured back and would make a great work bag. But I've found myself carrying the downtown more often - to work, shopping, and everything else! Besides, you can cram a lot of things into the medium downtown - even books!I would recommend getting a medium downtown in either the black or patent leather black. Best of luck!! |

Thanks ladies. I think I have never once for a second doubted the downtown as the bag for me. Black is great in that, and I am hoping to find it. I am sure it will look good in both colours (as would the muse).
The reason I asked about the muse now was because of this picture that saw in the references thread. I know the bag is white but I love how that charm just pop with colour on the bag and gives it a completely different look (plus I do need at least one black and one brown bag, if not this then something else, but I thought I was being safe). Especially after the Gucci babushka collection last year (not to much of a fan of Gucci usually) I though that it kind of made the bag more casual and maybe a bit more boho. I just imagined it like this with a soft polo neck in winter with a great pair of boot and jeans. What do you think? |

Enjoy a downtown while you are young! It's hip and effortless looking and you can fit a world in it. I held off buying it because I just approached "middle age" and wanted to buy something more "mature". Believe it or not I found the muse to be too refined for me and opted for a more casual Rive Gauche! I feel it still has the maturity factor but it exudes casualness, which is me! So enjoy the downtown - I think it's a great bag! Also, if you like classics, check out the new YSL hobo @ Saks! It's TDF! My favorite style bag is hobos and they seem to be really in this year! There's Prada, Givenchy and YSL to name a few! Good luck!

I think the downtown and M2 will look better for a 21 yr old student.. u may find the Muse abit refined- i mainly use it when I have meetings at work! You should invest in a downtown and/ M2 now, then get the Muse later!
