Uhhhhh . . . . . okay. I get what they're trying to do, but there must have been a more tactful way to go about it.

That is beyond inappropriate. Whoever thought making this was okay should be ashamed of themselves. I'm at a loss for words.

How distasteful, it seems to attract a lot of attention using the worst possible method, awful!

This incident sounds like something that was done by one or two agency employees who did not understand that by virtue of their profession, they join the ranks of those who do not have the luxury of going through life without being keenly attuned to cultures other than their own.

People who work in ad agencies that do international campaigns - and in this day and age, pretty much all campaigns, especially those intended to Inspire donations to a charity are, for all practical purposes, international - need to either already have, or if they don't, make a concerted and conscious effort to obtain, a high level of "finger on the pulse," of the markets they will be targeting.

Any ad intended to raise money for the WildLife Fund should, in my opinion, be slanted toward US viewers, designed specifically to appeal to that population, because people in the US do make a lot of donations to that organization.

While I wouldn't hold it against the Wildlife Fund, or even the ad agency - you can be sure that the young cultural solipsists responsible will have at the very least been "talked to," and advised to educate themselves on worldviews beyond their kitchen windows, it just might go down in history as a textbook example of an ad that was epically so not a good cultural fit for the population sector it would eventually reach - earning itself a place right up there with the Chevrolet campaigns in Latin America a few decades ago - advertising a car whose name, in Spanish, meant "does not go."
