i understand there are components to a vaccine, but do people freak out about everything they put into their mouth, every toothpaste, shampoo, body lotion, tampon, etc that they put into their body. EVERYTHING has preservatives, chemicals, etc. People seem to have joined a crusade against vaccines, which are made to HELP US. that is what i don't get. the big extreme fear for something that helped stop so many horrible disease. i'd likely never leave my house if i had to worry about measles, polio, small pox. I am grateful they have a h1n1 vaccine come out like they did, I already got my daughter the mist, and my son goes next week. if adults can get it, my husband and i will. there are so many things that can affect you..the stuffing in mattresses, down pillows, plastic toys, silicone baby nipples, car emissions, anything is potentially full of additives and chemicals. you have to just be reasonable in your fears. that is just my opinion, but i really don't get the war against vaccines.

I read somewhere that they have concluded that it's a mental thing. As in, it's all in her head. But don't quote me on this.

Is it just me or does it seem impossible that she would have this disease all the time EXCEPT when she runs and walks backwards?? THat makes absolutely no sense.

i just read that there is more mercury in a tuna sandwich than there is in one of the doses.

so i don't think it's so great a risk, as most people are consuming more mercury than would be in the one shot.

i don't understand how she can only walk backwards yet she can run and not get tired? is that common with that disease?

and i hear over and over that no one can gets the flu from getting the flu shot, but i have a friend who HAD to get the flu shot for years because she was taking care of her ill father and like clock work, EVERY YEAR after she got the flu shot, a week later she was sick with flu like symptoms. i may be able to pass it off if it happened once in awhile and not always the same time period but EVERY YEAR, the same amount of time between getting the flu shot and her getting sick are the same.

Neurological disorders can be complicated. I had a dog with one, and while she was moving forward (running or trotting), or laying down, she was seemed OK. If she stopped, she couldn't control her mannerisms and would constantly try to stand up on two legs and would fall backwards. She couldn't just stand still on four legs like a normal dog. It was horrible.

I posted this on the Swine Flu parties post but it applies here as well:
Someone with more medical knowledge can correct me here but I think this (getting flu even if you've had the vaccine) is because of the quick mutation rate of flu virus strains, and there being so many strains. They develop a vaccine against the one that is predicted to be most prevalent that year, but there will still be strains out there that the vaccine does not prevent against. To actually have vaccine to distribute at the appropriate time, they have to make a scientific guess basically about which strain to create the vaccine against. The multiple strains/ quick mutation of the virus is also why you can get the flu every year, but only get chicken pox once in your lifetime.

And it is possible it's an additive that is giving her flu-like symptoms. I never really believed that a drug could give you flu-like symptoms (it's a known side effect of many common medications) until it happened to me. It was awful, and I would not have known it wasn't the flu if I hadn't been specifically watching for symptoms from the drug.

The last two times I got a flu shot, 2 months later I ended up getting a flu for a few weeks. I would feel very cold even with a thick sweater on, get constant runny nose and very sick. My parents are encouraging me to get a flu shot but I rather not. I like to skip it over and see what will happen. >:[ And I'm getting a flu shot at Costco, and to be honest, I feel safer getting it at some medical center like Kaiser or whatever. Not some random store.

*sigh* time to renew my ins.

As for this story, I find it hard to believe too. But I will wait for more information.

It's not normal to get a runny nose when you have the flu. Maybe you just got a cold???
