Default Woman cuffed, booked for not paying library fines

GRAFTON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin woman has been arrested and booked for failing to pay her library fines.
Twenty-year-old Heidi Dalibor told the News Graphic in Cedarburg that she ignored the library's calls and letters as well as a notice to appear in court.
Still, she was surprised when officers with a warrant knocked on her door, cuffed her and took her to the police station to be fingerprinted and photographed.
Police Capt. Joe Gabrish says officers follow the same procedure with every warrant.
Library director John Hanson says a couple of dozen people are cited each year for failure to return materials or pay fines.
The incident cost Dalibor about $30 for the two overdue paperbacks. It cost her mother $172 to free her.

Like the quote right under your name, Veelyn...
It is so not that serious.
I can't believe they sent her to jail for that. I'm sure there are people out there with much higher fines left to pay for their library books.
Although, if I'd gotten a notice to appear in court, I would've marched down to the library and thrown thirty dollars at them.

Why did she ignore the notice to appear in court? That's a pretty serious warning that they will follow through with the warrant.

She didn't go to jail for overdue library books. She went to jail for ignoring a court order.

Just HOW overdue were those books, anyway?

That seems to be a catastrophic waste of a police officer's and the court's time.. :\

That happened to someone up in our area, but instead of 30.00 it was like 200.00. They were probably a couple used books you can find at a garage sale for ten cents.

It seems petty to be arrested for that, but she shouldn't have ignored the warnings.

The more I see, the more I wonder how people survive in this world! They just seem so hapless and have no common sense whatsoever!

Umm...tax payers are paying more for her to be in jail than the dang library fees! Ugh! Some people have too much time on their hands. Even though she shouldnt have ignored the court order, its still a ridiculous reason to be thrown in jail.

Come to think of it, I think I still have a book from YEARS ago *runs to return it RIGHT AWAY*

Oh god. Why don't they spend their time hunting for murderers, rapists, pedos, gangbangers and the like? This is just pathetic.
