How mortifying! Forget being fired. I would resign.

I don't understand this last statement? I thought she DID use a new blank dVD and just put in various images.

This was definitely a stupid mistake, and I don't think she should be fired, but I definitely think she should probably go to another school...if only to save face.

Second, it is the teacher's responsibility to watch the video in full before distributing it, if for no other reason than to make sure that it flowed smoothly from one segment to the next and that the audio matched the images.

And while there may be no technical grounds to fire her, communities have had their panties in a wad over school teachers or aids having been in pornography in the past. Sometimes community outrage is enough to force a teacher out, even if they cannot legally fire her. If I lived in that community, I'm not sure I'd be sad to see her go. If she was that negligent given a project for the class, I'm not sure I'd trust her being thorough in other areas, including teaching, grading, safety on field trips, previewing any movies or videos shown in the classroom, etc.
Eh, she definitely was negligent, but that last part is a bit too stringent. Even the most careful, meticulous people make mistakes. No one is perfect and it is unreasonable to think that this means she can't be trusted to teach or look after students properly on field trips. I don't understand why she didn't preview it before handing it out, but I can understand how it might have happened if the sex part was stored on her computer. One right click and it's over. Even now as i adjust to my Mac I have accidentally had documents and things put in places they don't need to be. Nothing as heinous as a sex video, but still I can definitely see how it could happen.

Then she is careless enough to copy it onto the memory disc she was making. And then she failed to preview the disc to make sure all the images came out properly. There is no "poor teacher" here. Just a woman who was reckless and careless and couldn't make the time to do a project properly. I don't have a lot of sympathy.
ITA with this. No 'poor teacher' that is a careless mistake that shouldn't have been made. Makes ya wonder how careles she is with the kids. If that were me, I wouldn't need to be fired, I would resign, out of embaresment.

She definitely should have been more careful. I can sort of understand her accidentally mixing up the porn file with another file and putting it on the dvd, but there's no excuse for not catching her mistake. What kind of teacher makes her students a dvd and then doesn't even watch the whole thing afterwards? I don't feel bad for her at all when it could have been easily avoided.

Well said. We can all agree that she should have previewed the entire DVD b4 distribution but I can see how the mistake can occur. Especially if the beginning starts out the way she intended it to. I have done the same thing, luckily for me I dont have a sex tape.

I just hate seeing people being judged based on one mistake.

People are pretty defensive about their children, though. Anyone who endangers the physical or emotional well-being of a child is judged, especially by the parents in the community. One mistake, especially as significant as this, can easily affect someone's job or even the trajectory of their career, whether they are a teacher or an advertising executive. Mistakes like this are the sort of thing people are judged on.

Wow, this must be really embarrassing for her. How can she look her students in the face now?

Hahaha wow...as a future teacher myself I feel that you shouldn't even be making sex tapes/pictures regardless of how careful you are..you just never know what can happen! But moral of the story, be careful with your sex tapes!!
