Here's more info on the chickenpox vaccination:

http://www.vaccineinformation.org/varicel/qandavax.asp

All 4 of my children (oldest being 21) have been vaccinated for chickenpox and have never had it. I nursed my 2 stepsons through it and they were very ill. I would no longer expose my children to this disease now that there's a vaccination for it. I won't expose my children to H1N1 either but I'd bet they will naturally be exposed since it is so wide spread. I've done what I can to build up their immune systems to help them fight H1N1 if they are exposed to it even after taking all the precautions that we can.

The were not even sick for 24 hours. I am not going to get them the swine flu shot. I think it is too soon to see what the side effects can be, and I know a lady whose daughter got very sick after the shot, and is in long term physical therapy to learn how to walk again. She has been in the hospital since she was given the shot.
Not sure if you know this or not but there are many reported severe side effects from Tamiflu in children. Including manic depression, suicide, psycosis (sp?) etc. Glad your kids were OK on it but its not for everyone.

These parents got this All Wrong!! They won't "immunize" their children against the H1N1 flu virus by exposing their children at these parties... what are they thinking? This is absolutely insane - they are exposing them to a very dangerous and potentially deadly disease.

Early on, when we were hearing about swine flu, people said it's just like ordinary flu, not that bad, and now we're hearing of more serious cases lasting many days and deaths in younger ages, so I would never want a child exposed to it. The scarcity of vaccine is an issue too. Maybe people are thinking they have to take their own measures, even though they are ill-advised???

I'm old enough (I relate to your experience, Shimma)) to recall when there were no vaccines for the childhood diseases and they could be very dangerous, especially measles. My sister and I shared measles, chicken pox (my mom got the chicken pox at age 49 and she was very, very sick). When sis had german measles, my mother tried to make me catch it, but I never did. But that's what moms did then because they knew it was dangerous at older ages and they were tryiong to protect us. That sounds odd now that there are vaccines for so many things.

I too, remember the chicken pox and the need for catching early. It was quite common for parents to send their kids over to be exposed. IT was much better to catch CP, measles and so forth early in life. We are lucky now that there are vaccines. Boys needed to catch mumps early and girls the measles.

I wouldn't want to send my child to a swine flu party, though. I wonder if the disease has already mutated into something more serious. Those of us that are older seem to be better off due to some built up immunities from the last swine flu epidemic.

My son told me that he read an article saying if you were born before 1950 (*raising hand*) that we have been through so many flu epidemics that we do have some natural immunity to this H1N1 virus. Now watch me post next week that I have it and am very sick. But that's hopeful for us older folks.

Man, this is not helping me at all! I am going back and forth with trying to decide if I should even get the vaccine (I am 29 days away from delivery) and this article made my ill to my stomach.

Holy cow.

Yep! I read an article about how children are more susceptible to nightmares as a result of Tamiflu.

This reminds me of the one Law and Order episode with Hilary Duff. Her character's child dies from measles, but she thought she had killed her baby, so she buries her near a parking lot. But, in the end they charge a woman who wouldn't have her child vaccinated for measles. They accused her of knowingly infecting other children.

i remember that episode...where they found out Hilary Duff's baby had caught measles from a neighbor child that wasn't vaccinated, and Hilary Duff's baby died as a result. Then they charged the mother of the unvaccinated child for manslaughter or something, since her decision to not vaccinate her child resulted in her child spreading the measles, which had ultimately caused the baby's death.

What is your OB/GYN telling you about this, Sunny? It's a terrible dilemma.
