I live in Chicagoland and I'm happy we didn't get the games - seriously, traffic in Chicago is already a nightmare and I can't imagine what would happen if the games were here - I would not be able to drive to work or take public transportation due to the ridiculously huge crowds.

Congrats to Rio - I'm sure they will put on quite a party!

I never thought we would get the games here in Chicago either. Congrats to Rio!

I'll probably get blasted for this but I'm glad Chicago didn't win. 3 words: traffic, tourists, expensive. I've been here all my life and I've never had a problem watching the Olympics on TV! However, it really did piss me off when they were saying Chicago got eliminated because of violence because to my knowledge Rio is way worse!

I cant talk about Tokyo but, i strongly disagree about Madrid. Spain has lots to learn in sport games IMO, see the football games for example, the crowd is racist (the throw bananas to black players), violent and uncooperative with authorities. I can only imagine how they would treat some athletes. Also, the country is far from having terrorism problem under control. I was actually surprised it ended in a better position than Chicago

I'm not going to turn this into a discusion about sports in Spain, but football(or soccer depending on where you are situated) fans /hooligans are not representative for the vast number of sport fans that will attend the olympics. These problems are in many countries often related to football and believe me they are no less in Brazil or even london where the olympics were held recently.

You're probably right on it not being representative. But being from Barcelona and currently living in Southamerica, i know what i am saying. I just hope this turns out great for Rio , i live in Venezuela so i might as well go see a game (BTW they call it futbol here lol)

Yeah, sadly I am pretty sure London is as bad as Barcelona regarding football fans =(

Yes, London is really bad with football games. I lived in London and there were always problems with a small group of people getting violent at games and throwing things or getting into fights! There are many countries where a group of people at the football game get violent. I can remember some stadiums having fences installed right before the field!

I am so excited about this! I love Rio! My boyfriend is from there, so I go every year. Rio is the perfect place for the Olympics (even though I worry about the damaging effects the games have on cities).
I wonder what Brazilian sport they will focus on and possibly introduce into the games?!
Maybe grappelling or some sort of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
