Personally this wouldn't bother me, there are more things in the world to be bothered about than a picture of someone in a bikini (besides which you can't see it from the inside of the plane).
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...013016,00.html By staff writers March 03, 2009 10:00am PASSENGERS are angry about being forced to fly on a new Southwest Airlines plane featuring a bikini-clad model, saying it is "soft porn". Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli, currently dating actor Leonardo DiCaprio, is pictured lying seductively in a revealing white bikini along the length of the Boeing 737 as part of a promotional deal with Sports Illustrated. The latest addition to the US-based airline was unveiled this month and is deployed like other aircraft in the fleet, servicing all its routes. The airline has received a flood of criticism on its corporate blog about the promotion, with many passengers complaining about having to board an aircraft “covered in pornography”. news.com.au/images/icon_galleries.gif Sexy: See the bikini-clad model on the plane “I would not want to have to watch this plane pull up to the gate traveling with my young child, or mother, grandmother, etc,” customer Jim Dawson said. “I know Southwest is known for its fun, laid back qualities but this is just completely inappropriate to plaster all over the side of the plane.” Mr Dawson was not alone in his disapproval, with many passengers slamming the aircraft as being in poor taste. “(It’s) very tacky. I know Southwest is notorious for it's fun, but this is simply in bad taste,” Don said. “This looks like a flying porn ad! I'm a longtime fan of SWA, this is one reason for me to change airlines,” another customer, Yvonne, said. Refaeli isn't the first attractive woman to be featured in a Southwest promotion. The airline aired television commercials in the 1970s starring flight attendants clad in hot pants and go-go boots, a uniform said to be favoured by co-founder Herb Kelleher. The low-cost airline hit the headlines in 2007 when a Southwest Airlines employee allegedly ordered a passenger off a flight for wearing a revealing outfit. Kyla Ebbert, 23, from San Diego claims she was only wearing a snug-fitting white top with a scoop neck that stopped just short of showing cleavage during the incident. Southwest later apologised to Ebbert and launched a fare sale that included "miniskirt prices". The bikini jet has some customers calling for a boycott of the airline, with others defending the promotion. The paint job will be removed when the promotion ends within a few months. |

I think the passengers are right to complain. There's too much sex in the media. Everywhere we look, we see a half naked body or something that makes reference to sex. Young children are constantly being exposed to this. We can definitely do without this kind of advertisement on a plane.

good lord, porn?? LOL. It's a celeb model wearing a bathing suit for a promotional ad of a highly respected sports magazine. I'm sure southwest doesn't give a rip if they lose some these people. They've done well in comparisson to the other US airlines during the crisis not only financially but in the customer service dept.

Considering the fact that a lot of people in airports are heading to destinations filled with, as MACsarah said, girls wearing bikinis, I think the complaints are a little silly. My only complaint is that Southwest doesn't also have some studly dude in Speedos on one of their planes.

I would in no way call this pornographic. But I do think it's a bit over the top and inappropriate.

![]() You know, I was thinking of snacking on something sugary and unhealthy (mini M&Ms), but now I don't think I will. Brain bleach, please!I hear you about getting to the destination safely, and this airline actually has a pretty good safety record. They've had all sorts of special paint jobs on their planes: http://www.southwest.com/about_swa/photos.html Arizona One is my favorite, of course. |

People just being a bit weary when the image is much larger than the cover of a magazine.
The Sports Illustrated mag is everywhere. Much like Maxim, FHM, etc. So...they posted the pic on a plane. That is the only difference. And that causes them to be upset. Oy... I guess they haven't seen those truck driven billboards advertising strip clubs? |
