Default Mom leaves baby in car all day

As I was watching then news this morning a story came on about a mother who left her 11 month old child in her car all day while she was at work. She is a professor at a local christian college. I feel terrible for her and her family but I do not get how you could forget your child in your car. She had to put the child in the car when she left for work so I dont know how you get to work and just forget you child all day. I am in no way judging or bashing this woman because we are human and we all make mistakes but this one always seems to amaze me when it happens. I was just posting this to see how others feel about this issue because it is a tough one for me.

Here is the article from cincinnati.com

It seems nuts, but just based on how common these stories are, it appears its not that hard to do. I would assume that it happens since people are so stressed and lead such hectic lives that its hard to keep track of everything. Obviously baby's whereabouts should be number one though...

That's just terrible. I feel so bad for the mother, and the family. How could anyone recover from such a thing -- she will blame herself for this for the rest of her existence. So sad.

I guess I'm judging her because people like her are idiots. They deserve to go to prison for murder. There is NO EXCUSE for leaving a child in a car, WHATSOEVER. You don't "forget" a child. IMO this is murder.

I don't think it's possible to forget your child ALL DAY! I don't want to get flamed here but I HAVE left my child in the car before. She was 7 months old.. we were house hunting with a realtor and on the way to the property she fell asleep. We got to the house and my husband and I get out of the car.. go in the house and walk around for a good 10 minutes until I flipped out realizing I left the baby in the car. I ran outside to get her.. sleeping still, unharmed thank goodness! Lucky for my baby that it was only 60 degrees and rainy outside so it never got hot in the car. I felt so terrible that I forgot about my child because of the excitement of looking at the house. It took me 10 minutes.... and I will never ever ever ever ever let that happen again.

This is tragic. I dont know how others think but I cannot imagine how someone could forget their child all day in a hot car. This will haunt this lady forever, i am so sorry it happened.

Thank you for posting this...
It has happened twice here in Spain this summer... A high school teacher left his son in the car and another couple left one of their twins in the boot thinking the baby had been taken out by the other spouse... The children died in both cases. Apparently, the parents were well regarded in their communities.
And a mentally handicapped little boy decided to hide in his Mum's car in the scorching heat and by the time they found him he was already dead...

I don't know how anyone could forget a child either, especially ALL DAY! Now...not to upset all the animal lovers but please be aware it can happen to the fur members of our families as well :-(

There was just a local story about people forgetting their pets in this humid summer weather and I hate to be graphic but the poor animals in this particular story clawed the dashboard trying to escape. The younger animal, a puppy, survived, but the 5 year old lab did not. My poor hubby saw this story this morning in the kitchen and did not even want breakfast after he saw it. I lost my appetite also.

You just cannot be too careful!!!

this makes me so sad. the worst part is that we hear so many of these stories. i don't know wtf is wrong with people. taralindsey - 10 minutes vs. 8 hours is a big difference. don't beat yourself up.

I will never understand how a parent forgets for the whole day that their precious child is in the car

Here is an update on this story

http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs...NTPAGECAROUSEL

I understand when she says she does not get why the daycare didnt call but it seems to me as if she wants to blame someone else. I know later on it says that she is not trying to blame them but I get the feeling she is. I also realize she had a new routine but she always took the children to the same daycare everyday and even though they went to new daycare places she still was always the only one in charge of taking them to daycare. Also when she dropped her 3 year old off I wonder if she walked him in and if she did, did he leave the infant in the car? I do not have children so I do not know how the whole daycare drop off/pick up works but it seems to me that if she carried the baby into the daycare or helped the toddler out of his carseat she would have seen the baby. This breaks my hear hearing this story. I feel terrible for how the child had to die and I feel bad for the family but I still don't get how you forget.
